Introduction: Primary care providers or clinicians (PCPs) have the potential to assist dermatologists in screening patients at risk for skin cancer, but require training to appropriately identify higher-risk patients, perform skin checks, recognize and biopsy concerning lesions, interpret pathology results, document the exam, and bill for the service. Very few validated dermatology training programs exist for PCPs and those that are available focus primarily on one emphasis area, which results in variable efficacy and single-topic limited scope.

Methods: We have created a free, online, continuing education program (Melanoma Toolkit for Early Detection, MTED) that allows learners to choose from a variety of multimedia tools (image recognition, videos, written material, in-person seminars, self-tests, etc.

Therapeutic agents for Alzheimer's disease: a critical appraisal.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia. Mutations in genes and precursors of amyloid (Aβ) are found in the familial form of the disease. This led to the evaluation of seven monoclonal antibodies against Aβ in subjects with AD, two of which were approved for use by the FDA.

Phase II Study of Acalabrutinib, Venetoclax, and Obinutuzumab in a Treatment-Naïve Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Population Enriched for High-Risk Disease.

Purpose: The AMPLIFY trial recently established fixed-duration acalabrutinib, venetoclax, and obinutuzumab (AVO) as a new standard-of-care option for patients with previously untreated chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) with wild-type ; however, due to the chemoimmunotherapy control arm, AMPLIFY excluded patients with high-risk aberration, for whom current standards of care are continuous Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy or alternatively fixed-duration venetoclax-based doublets. AVO has not previously been evaluated in patients with CLL with aberration.

Experiences of discrimination in healthcare settings, trust in providers and disordered eating behaviors in LGBTQ+ college students.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals report more experiences of healthcare discrimination and disordered eating behaviors (DEBs), and less trust in physicians than their cisgender and heterosexual counterparts. Although research supports a link between discrimination and DEBs among LGBTQ+ populations, few studies have specifically investigated healthcare discrimination and DEBs in this population. This study examined whether LGBTQ+ status moderated the relation between negative healthcare experiences and DEBs in undergraduates.

Importance: US veterans may be at an increased risk of developing various dermatologic conditions compared with nonveterans.

Objectives: To compare the prevalence and the odds of dermatologic conditions (eg, skin cancers, dermatitis/eczema/rash, psoriasis) between veterans and nonveterans.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This population-based cross-sectional study leveraged nationally representative data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Mitigating Harms of Social Media for Adolescent Body Image and Eating Disorders: A Review.

Social media has negative effects on adolescent body image and disordered eating behaviors, yet adolescents are unlikely to discontinue engaging with these platforms. Thus, it is important to identify strategies that can reduce the harms of social media on adolescent mental health. This article reviews research on social media and adolescent body image, and discusses strategies to reduce risks associated with social media use.

Transdifferentiation of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma to a poorly differentiated neoplasm following CAR T-cell therapy.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy is a recent advancement in precision medicine with promising results for patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies. However, rare post-therapy morphologic, immunophenotypic, and genomic alterations can occur. This study is to present a case of a patient with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who underwent anti-CD19 CAR-T therapy with disease in the uterus that showed transdifferentiation to a poorly differentiated malignant neoplasm that failed to express any lineage specific markers.

A qualitative analysis of college women's experiences with dieting.

Objective: Dieting is a known risk factor for disordered eating, yet many college women engage in this behavior. Given the popularity of diets, and the risks associated with dieting, it is important to enhance understanding of dieters' experiences. This study utilized a qualitative approach to investigate college women's experiences of dieting.

Developmental remodeling repurposes larval neurons for sexual behaviors in adult Drosophila.

Most larval neurons in Drosophila are repurposed during metamorphosis for functions in adult life, but their contribution to the neural circuits for sexually dimorphic behaviors is unknown. Here, we identify two interneurons in the nerve cord of adult Drosophila females that control ovipositor extrusion, a courtship rejection behavior performed by mated females. We show that these two neurons are present in the nerve cord of larvae as mature, sexually monomorphic interneurons.

Ladostigil Reduces the Adenoside Triphosphate/Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Secretion of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines from Microglia and Modulate-Immune Regulators, TNFAIP3, and EGR1.

Treatment of aging rats for 6 months with ladostigil (1 mg/kg/day) prevented a decline in recognition and spatial memory and suppressed the overexpression of gene-encoding pro-inflammatory cytokines, TNFα, IL1β, and IL6 in the brain and microglial cultures. Primary cultures of mouse microglia stimulated by lipopolysaccharides (LPS, 0.75 µg/mL) and benzoyl ATPs (BzATP) were used to determine the concentration of ladostigil that reduces the secretion of these cytokine proteins.

Implementation of Direct-to-Patient Mobile Teledermatology in VA.

Background: Innovative technology can enhance patient access to healthcare but must be successfully implemented to be effective.

Objective: We evaluated Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA's) implementation of My VA Images, a direct-to-patient asynchronous teledermatology mobile application enabling established dermatology patients to receive follow-up care remotely instead of in-person.

Design /participants/approach: Following pilot testing at 3 facilities, the app was introduced to 28 facilities (4 groups of 7) every 3 months using a stepped-wedge cluster-randomized design.

Cultural adaptation of an integrated eating disorders prevention and healthy weight management program.

Background: Both eating disorder (ED) prevention and weight management interventions often focus on the thin ideal. Yet, many Black and Latina women do not view thinness as their body ideal. This study used focus groups to investigate the influence of race, ethnicity, and culture on appearance ideals and inform the cultural adaptation and integration of two established programs addressing EDs and weight management: the Body Project, and Healthy Weight Interventions.

Teaching Tracheostomy Tube Changes: Comparison of Operant Learning Versus Traditional Demonstration.

Objective: Tracheostomy tube change is a multistep skill that must be performed rapidly and precisely. Despite the critical importance of this skill, there is wide variation in teaching protocols.

Methods: An innovative operant conditioning teaching methodology was employed and compared to traditional educational techniques.

Pectin and its modification influence the plasticity and strength of the plant cell wall controlling cell adhesion, size, shape, and pathogen resistance. The Golgi membrane anchored QUA1, QUA2, and GAUT9 Golgi enzymes synthesize and esterify pectin, which is then secreted and selectively de-esterified to potentiate structure influencing crosslinks in the cell wall. Mutations in members of the family of non-enzymatic ELMO Golgi membrane proteins lead to a reduction of pectin levels, cell adhesion, and hypocotyl tensile strength.

Using the RE-AIM framework to assess national teledermatology expansion.

Background: Teledermatology has been utilized in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for decades but continues to have incomplete penetration. VA has funded an initiative to enhance access to dermatology services since 2017 to support asynchronous teledermatology for Veterans living in rural areas. As part of an ongoing evaluation of this program, we assessed the teledermatology activity between the fiscal years 2020 and 2022.

Oral Nicotinamide for Actinic Keratosis Prevention in Kidney Transplant Recipients: A Pilot Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial.

Background: Oral nicotinamide (NAM) has shown promise in preventing actinic keratoses (AKs) in trials based outside of the United States. We assessed the efficacy of oral NAM supplementation in kidney transplant recipients with a history of keratinocyte carcinoma.

Material And Methods: Patients enrolled in a 2-week run-in phase, during which NAM 1000 mg was taken twice daily.

AN1284 attenuates steatosis, lipogenesis, and fibrosis in mice with pre-existing non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and directly affects aryl hydrocarbon receptor in a hepatic cell line.

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is an aggressive form of fatty liver disease with hepatic inflammation and fibrosis for which there is currently no drug treatment. This study determined whether an indoline derivative, AN1284, which significantly reduced damage in a model of acute liver disease, can reverse steatosis and fibrosis in mice with pre-existing NASH and explore its mechanism of action. The mouse model of dietary-induced NASH reproduces most of the liver pathology seen in human subjects.

Parent involvement approach and changes in eating pathology within an adolescent obesity intervention.

Background: Although adolescents with obesity have heightened risk for eating pathology, the impact of differential parent involvement on eating pathology after obesity treatment is unknown. We examined differences in eating pathology in adolescents whose parents were randomized to distinct interventions within adolescent obesity treatment.

Methods: Participants were 82 adolescent/parent dyads (adolescents: 63 % female; 55 % racial/ethnically marginalized) enrolled in TEENS+, a 4-month behavioral weight loss intervention.
