Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is characterized by leptomeningeal vascular malformation, resulting in significant risks of life-threatening seizures and strokes. The current absence of specific treatments underscores the need to define the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive the progression of SWS. Here, the transcriptome of 119 446 cells isolated from both malformed tissues and peri-lesion tissues from the brains of patients with SWS is examined.

Background: Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare congenital neurocutaneous disorder, often complicated by epilepsy. Approximately 50% of patients with SWS with epilepsy develop drug-resistant seizures, leaving limited treatment options. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a known therapy for refractory epilepsy, modulating neural activity to reduce seizures.

Article Synopsis
  • Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare neurological and skin disorder often linked to drug-resistant epilepsy, which this study investigates in relation to HMGB1 protein translocation.
  • The research involved eight SWS patients who underwent hemispherectomy; brain tissue analysis showed increased levels of cytoplasmic HMGB1, particularly in microglia and neurons, while astrocytes mainly retained nuclear localization.
  • Findings indicate that HMGB1 may play a role in the development of drug-resistant epilepsy in SWS, but no correlation was observed between HMGB1 levels and the patients' clinical characteristics, highlighting a need for further investigation into its mechanisms and potential treatment targets.

Background: Colletotrichum sublineola is the pathogenic fungus that causes sorghum anthracnose, which seriously threatens sorghum yield. Benzovindiflupyr is a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor with good control effects on various crop diseases. However, the control of sorghum anthracnose by benzovindiflupyr and the risk of resistance to benzovindiflupyr in this pathogen are not well studied.

Words offer a unique opportunity to separate the processing mechanisms of object subcomponents from those of the whole object, because the phonological or semantic information provided by the word subcomponents (i.e., sublexical information) can conflict with that provided by the whole word (i.

Aims: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is not routinely performed in elderly patients (≥75 years old) to date because of concerns about complications and decreased benefit. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of DBS in elderly patients with Parkinson's disease.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed using data from 40 elderly patients from four centers who were treated with neurosurgical robot-assisted DBS between September 2016 and December 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated how well different surgeons agree on classifying lateral clavicle fractures using four classification systems: OTA, Neer, Jäger/Breitner, and Gongji.
  • It involved experienced shoulder specialists and general trauma surgeons analyzing X-rays and 3D-CT scans of 20 lateral clavicle fractures across various hospitals.
  • Results showed shoulder specialists had better agreement with OTA, Neer, and Jäger/Breitner systems, while generalists showed improved agreement with the Gongji system, highlighting differences in classification reliability based on the surgeon's expertise.

Depression is a common psychiatric comorbidity in patients with epilepsy, especially those with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). The aim of this study was to assess changes in high mobility group box protein 1 (HMGB1) expression in epileptic patients with and without comorbid depression. Sixty patients with drug-resistant TLE who underwent anterior temporal lobectomy were enrolled.
