Anode-less lithium metal batteries (ALLMB) are promising candidates for energy storage applications owing to high-energy-density and safety characteristics. However, the unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formed on anode copper current collector (CuCC) leads to poor reversibility of uneven lithium deposition/stripping. Though the well-known knowledge of lithium salt-derived inorganic-rich SEI (iSEI) benefiting uniform lithium deposition, how to design a lithium salt-philic CuCC with undiscovered salt-philic facet that favors lithium salt adsorption and catalyzing salt decomposition into iSEI, remains unexplored yet.

Settling the structure stacking of graphene (G) nanosheets to maintain the high dispersity has been an intense issue to facilitate their practical application in the microelectronics-related devices. Herein, the co-doping of the highest electronegative fluorine (F) and large atomic radius chlorine (Cl) into G via a one-step electrochemical exfoliation protocol is engineered to actualize the ultralong cycling stability for flexible micro-supercapacitors (MSCs). Density functional theoretical calculations unveiled that the F into G can form the "ionic" C─F bond to increase the repulsive force between nanosheets, and the introduction of Cl can enlarge the layer spacing of G as well as increase active sites by accumulating the charge on pore defects.

Background: There are billions of bacteria in the intestine, most of which are harmless and play important roles in humans. Although only a very small number of bacteria can cause diseases, once the pathogenic bacteria are ingested into the body and multiply in large quantities, it can lead to inflammatory diseases in the intestines and even other organs. Although polymerase chain reaction can specifically detect bacterial nucleic acid.

Photothermal CO methanation reaction represents a promising strategy for addressing CO-related environmental issues. The presence of efficient tandem catalytic sites with a localized high-temperature is an effective pathway to enhance the performance of CO methanation. Here the bimetallic RuCo nanoparticles anchored on ZrO fiber cotton (RuCo/ZrO) as a photothermal catalyst for CO methanation are prepared.

Article Synopsis
  • Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is traditionally difficult due to the need for extreme heat, but a new method using a 16 W pulsed laser with a MoC catalyst offers a more efficient solution.
  • The laser not only heats the catalyst but also creates CH plasma, speeding up the DRM process by eliminating slow steps in methane breakdown and keeping the catalyst stable.
  • This innovative approach results in high production rates of hydrogen and carbon monoxide while maintaining good energy efficiency, making it a promising option for reducing energy costs in catalytic processes.

Circulating tumor cell clusters/micro-emboli (CTM) possess greater metastatic capacity and survival advantage compared to individual circulating tumor cell (CTC). However, the formation of CTM subtypes and their role in tumor metastasis remain unclear. In this study, we used a microfluidic Cluster-Chip with easy operation and high efficiency to isolate CTM from peripheral blood, which confirmed their correlation with clinicopathological features and identified the critical role of CTC-platelet clusters in breast cancer metastasis.

Histamine 4 receptor (H4R), the most recently identified subtype of histamine receptor, primarily induces inflammatory reactions upon activation. Several H4R antagonists have been developed for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and atopic dermatitis (AD), but their use has been limited by adverse side effects, such as a short half-life and toxicity. Natural products, as an important source of anti-inflammatory agents, offer minimal side effects and reduced toxicity.

Tetrahymena piriformis belongs to the ciliated protists (ciliates), causing severe economic losses in aquaculture. Chemical drugs currently used usually have toxic side effects, and there is no specific drug against Tetrahymena. Therefore, it is an urgent need to identify new antiparasitic lead compounds.

Transition metal oxides have been acknowledged for their exceptional water splitting capabilities in alkaline electrolytes, however, their catalytic activity is limited by low conductivity. The introduction of sulfur (S) into nickel molybdate (NiMoO) at room temperature leads to the formation of sulfur-doped NiMoO (S-NiMoO), thereby significantly enhancing the conductivity and facilitating electron transfer in NiMoO. Furthermore, the introduction of S effectively modulates the electron density state of NiMoO and facilitates the formation of highly active catalytic sites characterized by a significantly reduced hydrogen absorption Gibbs free energy (ΔG) value of -0.

Designing highly active electrocatalysts that can resist chloride ion (Cl) corrosion during seawater electrolysis is still a challenge. Here, Mo-doping is introduced to synchronously improve the electrocatalytic activity and anti-chlorine corrosion of NiS toward the efficient overall seawater splitting. With commercial nickel-molybdenum foam (NMF) as the reactive substrates, Mo-doped NiS columnar arrays (Mo-NiS/NMF) are fabricated via a one-step hydrothermal process, which expose abundant active sites with the ameliorated surface electronic configurations toward the enhanced binding with *OH (* denotes an active site) but the weakened one with *Cl.

Modulation of the local electronic structure of isolated coordination structures plays a critical role in electrocatalysis yet remains a grand challenge. Herein, we have achieved electron perturbation for the isolated iron coordination structure via tuning the iron spin state from a high spin state (FeN) to a medium state (FeNB). The transition of spin polarization facilitates electron penetration into the antibonding π orbitals of nitrogen and effectively activates nitrogen molecules, thereby achieving an ammonia yield of 115 μg h mg and a Faradaic efficiency of 24.

Solar-thermal storage with phase-change material (PCM) plays an important role in solar energy utilization. However, most PCMs own low thermal conductivity which restricts the thermal charging rate in bulk samples and leads to low solar-thermal conversion efficiency. Here, we propose to regulate the solar-thermal conversion interface in spatial dimension by transmitting the sunlight into the paraffin-graphene composite with side-glowing optical waveguide fiber.

Electrocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen (H) production has attracted more and more attention in the context of energy shortages. The use of scarce pure water resources, such as electrolyte, not only increases the cost but also makes application difficult on a large scale. Compared to pure water electrolysis, seawater electrolysis is more competitive in terms of both resource acquisition and economic benefits; however, the complex ionic environment in seawater also brings great challenges to seawater electrolysis technology.
