To determine patients' perspectives on home monitoring at emergency department (ED) presentation and shortly after admission and compare these with their physicians' perspectives. Forty Dutch hospitals participated in this prospective flash mob study. Adult patients with acute medical conditions, treated by internal medicine specialties, presenting at the ED or admitted at the admission ward within the previous 24 h were included.

Mentalization based treatment for a broad range of personality disorders: a naturalistic study.

Background: Several studies have observed that mentalization-based treatment (MBT) is an effective treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD), but its effectiveness for other personality disorders (PDs) has hardly been examined. Additionally, the evidence supporting the claim that MBT improves mentalizing capacity is scarce. The present study examined whether (i) patients with a broad range of PDs enrolled in an MBT program would improve on several outcome measures (ii) mentalizing capacity would improve over time; (iii) patients with BPD would improve more than those with non-borderline PDs.

The current demand for high-channel-count neural-recording interfaces calls for more area- and power-efficient readout architectures that do not compromise other electrical performances. In this paper, we present a miniature 128-channel neural recording integrated circuit (NRIC) for the simultaneous acquisition of local field potentials (LFPs) and action potentials (APs), which can achieve a very good compromise between area, power, noise, input range and electrode DC offset cancellation. An AC-coupled 1-order digitally-intensive architecture is proposed to achieve this compromise and to leverage the advantages of a highly-scaled technology node.

We implemented a comprehensive package of interventions aiming to enable all families to complete the treatment of their child. Patient involvement in rheumatoid arthritis care to improve disease activity-based management in daily practice: A randomized controlled trial.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of an intervention to improve disease activity-based management of RA in daily clinical practice by addressing patient level barriers.

Methods: The DAS-pass strategy aims to increase patients' knowledge about DAS28 and to empower patients to be involved in treatment (decisions). It consists of an informational leaflet, a patient held record and guidance by a specialized rheumatology nurse.

Effect of significant weight loss on disease activity: reason to implement this non-pharmaceutical intervention in daily clinical practice.

Obesity is very common in patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRDs), of which between 27% and 37% of patients have a body mass index ≥30 kg/m In addition to further increasing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in this group of patients, obesity is associated with higher disease activity and a lower response to drug therapy. This case series showed that in those patients with rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis with a substantial weight loss of >10% of body mass, median Disease Activity Score 28 joints score decreased with 0.9.

Mentalization-based treatment for psychotic disorder: a rater-blinded, multi-center, randomized controlled trial.

Background: Impaired mentalizing ability - an impaired ability to understand one's own and other people's behavior in terms of mental states - is associated with social dysfunction in non-affective psychotic disorder (NAPD). We tested whether adding mentalization-based treatment for psychotic disorder (MBTp) to treatment as usual (TAU) results in greater improvement in social functioning.

Introduction: The Collaborative Wilms Tumour (WT) Africa Project implemented an adapted WT treatment guideline in six centres in sub-Saharan Africa. The primary objectives were to describe abandonment of treatment, death during treatment, event-free survival (EFS) and relapse following implementation. An exploratory objective was to compare outcomes with the baseline evaluation, a historical cohort preceding implementation.

Strategies for implementation of guideline recommended cardiovascular risk management for patients with rheumatoid arthritis: results from a questionnaire survey of expert rheumatology centers.

The aim was to study the different strategies used to implement cardiovascular risk evaluation and management for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in daily clinical practice. A questionnaire survey was performed among both the members of the international Trans-Atlantic Cardiovascular Risk Consortium for Rheumatoid Arthritis (ATACC-RA) as well as the Survey of cardiovascular disease risk factors (CVD-RF) in patients with RA (SURF-RA) group. The questionnaire included 18 questions with the overarching topics: (1) organization and responsibility of cardiovascular risk management (CVRM); (2) screening of CVD-RFs; (3) overview current CVRM status; and (4) availability of data regarding CVRM.

Disease activity-based management of rheumatoid arthritis in Dutch daily clinical practice has improved over the past decade.

To re-evaluate the adherence to clinical practice guidelines recommended disease activity-based management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in daily clinical practice, among Dutch rheumatologists in the past decade. In 2007, disease activity was measured in only 16% of outpatient visits. All rheumatologists that participated in the 2007 study were invited to re-enter our study in 2016/2017.

Background: Fetal monitoring based on electrocardiographic (ECG) morphology is obtained from a single unipolar fetal scalp electrode. Ideally, it should be obtained from multiple leads, as ECG waveform depends on alignment between electrode and electrical heart axis. This alignment is unknown in fetuses.

The relationship between childhood abuse and severity of psychosis is mediated by loneliness: an experience sampling study.

Background: This study tested the hypotheses that (i) the relationship between a history of childhood abuse and severity of psychosis is mediated by loneliness; (ii) the relationship between loneliness and psychosis is mediated by within-person fluctuations in depressive and anxious feelings.

Methods: Fifty-nine individuals with non-affective psychotic disorder rated the intensity of loneliness, positive symptoms, and depressive and anxious feelings during repeated moments in daily life (Experience Sampling Method). Childhood abuse was assessed retrospectively using the 'Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse' interview.

Reported Childhood Abuse and Stress Reactivity in Psychosis: A Conceptual Replication and Exploration of Statistical Approaches.

A previous study observed that reported childhood abuse moderated psychotic and emotional reactivity to stress among patients with non-affective psychotic disorder. However, that study used a type of analysis unsuited for skewed data. This study aimed (1) to replicate the study and (2) to examine whether we would obtain similar results using a statistical approach better suited to skewed data.

Exercise participation has increased in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis: A cross-sectional comparison between two Dutch RA cohorts.

Objective: This study evaluates exercise participation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the percentage of patients that meet the recommended level of physical activity (at least 150 minutes per week moderate-intensity physical activity) in two cross-sectional questionnaires in 2013 and 2016 in two Dutch RA cohorts.

Methods: In 2013, a cross-sectional study was performed among 740 patients with RA from seven outpatient clinics from the Dutch DREAM registry. Subsequently in 2016, 498 patients with RA of the outpatient clinic of the Bernhoven Hospital (member of the DREAM registry) participated in a similar study.

Past changes in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (co) have had a major impact on earth system dynamics; yet, reconstructing secular trends of past co remains a prevalent challenge in paleoclimate studies. The current long-term co reconstructions rely largely on the compilation of many different proxies, often with discrepancies among proxies, particularly for periods older than 100 million years (Ma). Here, we reconstructed Phanerozoic co from a single proxy: the stable carbon isotopic fractionation associated with photosynthesis (Ɛ) that increases as co increases.

A Ballistographic Approach for Continuous and Non-Obtrusive Monitoring of Movement in Neonates.

Continuously monitoring body movement in preterm infants can have important clinical applications since changes in movement-patterns can be a significant marker for clinical deteriorations including the onset of sepsis, seizures, and apneas. This paper proposes a system and method to monitor body movement of preterm infants in a clinical environment using ballistography. The ballistographic signal (BSG) is acquired using a thin and a film-like sensor that is placed underneath an infant.
