Thyroid surgery often results in ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) to the parathyroid glands, yet the mechanisms underlying this and how to ameliorate IRI remain incompletely explored. Our study identifies a polyphenolic herbal extract-gallic acid (GA)-with antioxidative properties against IRI. Through flow cytometry and CCK8 assays, we investigate the protective effects of GA pretreatment on a parathyroid IRI model and decode its potential mechanisms via RNA-seq and bioinformatics analysis.

Aims: To examine long-term risk of overweight in offspring of women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) defined by the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group (IADPSG)'s criteria but not by the 1999 World Health Organization (WHO)'s criteria.

Methods: We followed up 1681 mother-child pairs for 8 years in Tianjin, China. Overweight in children aged 1-5 and 6-8 were respectively defined as body mass index-for-age and -sex above the 2 z-score and 1 z-score curves of the WHO's child growth standards.

(1) BACKGROUND: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) can cause angiogenesis in the thyroid gland. However, the molecular mechanism of endothelial cells and angiogenesis related genes (ARGs) has not been extensively studied in HT. (2) METHODS: The HRA001684, GSE29315 and GSE163203 datasets were included in this study.

Background: Edaravone dexborneol and dl-3-n-butylphthalide are two innovative brain cytoprotective drugs from China that have been approved and widely prescribed for acute ischemic stroke, and the cost of the two drugs are partially paid by the Chinese medical insurance system. This study aimed to investigate and compare the cost-effectiveness of edaravone dexborneol versus dl-3-n-butylphthalide for acute ischemic stroke from the Chinese healthcare system's perspective.

Methods: A model combining a short-term decision tree model with 90 days and a long-term Markov model with a life-time horizon (40 years) was developed to simulate the cost-effectiveness of edaravone dexborneol versus dl-3-n-butylphthalide for acute ischemic stroke over a lifetime horizon.

Aims: To examine the independent and interactive effects of maternal gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and high pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) on the risk of offspring adverse growth patterns.

Materials And Methods: One thousand six hundred and eighty one mother-child pairs were followed for 8 years in Tianjin, China. Group-based trajectory modelling was used to identify offspring growth patterns.

Cell cycle progression and cell proliferation are tightly controlled processes physiologically; however, in cancerous cells, uncontrolled cell proliferation may be attributed to abnormal expression of the cyclin genes. Therefore, analysis of the expression of the cyclin genes may result in the discovery of biomarkers that can be used to predict a prognosis and help to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy more accurately in several types of cancer, including breast cancer. In this study, 15 subtypes of the cyclin genes in breast cancer from public databases were selected using bioinformatics analysis, the correlation between their transcriptional expression levels and survival rates were analyzed, and the results were further confirmed using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR in various breast cancer cell lines.

Objective: Active surveillance (AS) has been shown to be a safe approach that can effectively block transition from overdiagnosis to overtreatment in patients with low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). This study aimed to determine whether the AS approach can be implemented in China and investigate the population characteristics of Chinese patients who underwent AS.

Methods: The epidemiologic and clinical characteristics as well as patient adherence were evaluated in 115 patients who underwent AS management as an alternative to immediate surgery for low-risk (or highly suspected) PTMC.

Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has increased rapidly over recent years, and radiation, hormone effects, gene mutations, and others were viewed as closely related. However, the molecular mechanisms of PTC have not been cleared. Therefore, we intended to screen more accurate key genes and pathways of PTC by combining RT profiler PCR arrays and bioinformatics methods in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of Thomsen-Friedenreich antibody (TF-Ab) and its impact on thyroid cancer (TC), specifically looking at how it may inhibit tumor growth and metastasis.
  • Researchers compared TF-Ab levels in patients with primary papillary TC and found that these levels were lower than in normal individuals, with no correlation to lymph node metastasis.
  • The introduction of a specific monoclonal antibody (mAb A78-G/A7) significantly impaired TC cells' ability to adhere, invade, and migrate, indicating its potential as a therapeutic agent against thyroid cancer.

BACKGROUND Hypoparathyroidism is a common complication after thyroidectomy. Calcium supplementation can relieve these symptoms, but it is not clear whether it can protect the parathyroid glands. This study aimed to verify whether Ca²⁺ inhibits the apoptosis of parathyroid cells following ischemic injury.

The folding reaction of a β-barrel membrane protein, outer membrane protein A (OmpA), is probed with Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) experiments. Four mutants of OmpA were generated in which the donor fluorophore, tryptophan, and acceptor molecule, a naphthalene derivative, are placed in various locations on the protein to report the evolution of distances across the bilayer and across the protein pore during a folding event. Analysis of the FRET efficiencies reveals three timescales for tertiary structure changes associated with insertion and folding into a synthetic bilayer.
