This study was to determine the synergistic effect of corn straw and mulberry leaves in sheep diet. Corn straw and mulberry leaves were mixed as culture substrate for six groups: 100:0 (T0), 80:20 (T20), 60:40 (T40), 40: 60 (T60), 20:80 (T80) and 0:100 (T100). The in vitro culture indicated that mulberry leaves exhibited a positive correlation with theoretical gas production (GP), cumulative GP, microbial crude protein concentration, and organic matter digestibility.

Rice eating and cooking quality (ECQ) is significantly influenced by the physicochemical properties of its starch. This study integrates whole-genome resequencing, transcriptomic data, and phenotypic analysis to identify the genetic factors that regulate transcript expression levels and contribute to phenotypic variation in rice ECQ traits. A TWAS (transcriptome-wide association study) identified 285 transcripts linked to six ECQ traits.

In recent years, flexible-hydrogel wearable devices have undergone rapid development while photothermal therapy, energy storage/conversion, and other fields have been widely developed and used. However, the poor mechanical properties of hydrogels can affect their stability and reliability in practical applications, and it is often difficult to achieve both excellent mechanical properties and multifunctional characteristics. This study prepared a hierarchical cellulose network/PVA multifunctional composite hydrogel (MCPH) using cellulose nanofiber as fine fibers and microfibrillated cellulose as coarse fibers.

Flexible electronic sensors that can capture subtle physical, chemical and biological signals and generate real-time stimulus responses are of great importance in the fields of human-computer interaction, biomedicine, etc. Herein, a multifunctional sensing hydrogel was developed by tightly adhering two-dimensional rigid conductive MXene nanosheets to the surface of vimineous silk nanofibers (SNFs) and assembling them into an SNF@MXene network structure. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was then in situ polymerized in SNF@MXene as a filling matrix.

Noble metal nanoparticles have been widely used in catalysis, environmental studies, and other fields. However, the loading of noble metals is challenging because of their unfavorable mass transfer. Herein, a simple, green dual-template method was developed for the synthesis of a Marangoni cellulose hydrogel rotor catalytic reactor (MCR).

In periparturient dairy cows, high non-esterified fatty acids (NEFAs) caused by a severe negative energy balance induce oxidative stress and metabolic dysfunction, which pose a severe challenge to the dairy industry. Resveratrol (RES) is a polyphenolic compound with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and multiple other physiological effects. However, its effect on oxidative damage triggered by NEFAs in bovine mammary epithelial cells is rarely reported.

Mulberry is an important economic crop in China that is widely planted and has important edible and medicinal value. Anthracnose, a critical leaf disease, severely compromises the yield and quality of mulberry trees. However, there are many kinds of pathogens causing mulberry anthracnose and it is difficult to control.

Most of the developed flexible hydrogel supercapacitors struggle to maintain their electrochemical stability and structural integrity under tensile strain. Therefore, developing a flexible supercapacitor with excellent mechanical properties and stable electrochemical performance under different strains remains a challenge. Based on the previous cartilage-like structure, we designed a new coarse nanofiber bundle and ordered network.

The poultry industry struggles with oxidative stress affecting gut health and productivity. This study examined using 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) extracts from mulberry leaves as an antioxidant in broilers feed to combat this issue. We divided 240 broilers, aged 16 days, into six groups, including a control and groups exposed to oxidative stress through HO injections, with different supplement levels of DNJ-E (40, 80, 120, and 160 mg/kg of the basal diet) lasting until the broilers reached 42 days old.

Glucose oxidases (GODs) induce the catalyzation from β-d-glucose to gluconic acid in an oxygen-consuming process, providing a potential antibiotic substitution strategy. However, the inadequate properties of existing GODs in parallel hinder the antimicrobial capacity for industrial applications. In this study, PaGOD (WT) from Penicillium amagasakiense was enzymatically improved through computer-aided design based on energy optimization.

Background: There are few studies on the effects of electrically stimulated bacteria on anti-nutritional factors and microbial communities in mulberry leaf silage. This study aimed to examine the impact of the combined use of electrically stimulated Bacillus subtilis (EB) and Lactobacillus casei (LC) on the quality and degradation of anti-nutritional factors in mulberry leaf silage.

Results: The results revealed that the synergistic effect of EB and LC significantly enhanced the nutritional value of mulberry leaves, as evidenced by the promotion of lactic acid synthesis, the reduction of anti-nutritional factors, and the augmentation of lactic acid bacteria following a 60-day silage period.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how mulberry 1-deoxynijirimycin (DNJ) affects rabbit digestion, gut structure, and intestinal health by using 36 rabbits divided into groups based on different DNJ concentrations.
  • Results showed that higher levels of DNJ (T2) led to lower weight gain and reduced villus height, but it also improved gut barrier functions and decreased inflammation.
  • Overall, while high DNJ levels altered gut microbiome and enhanced intestinal health, they negatively impacted growth and villus size in the rabbits.

Intersexual differentiation is crucial for the speciation and maintenance of dioecious plants, but the underlying mechanisms, including the genes involved, are still poorly understood. Here, we focused on a typical dioicous plant , to explore the molecular footprints relevant to sex evolution by revealing the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between two sexes and the testing signals of selection for these DEGs. From the results, we found a total of 1543 DEGs.

Elevated levels of NEFA caused by negative energy balance in transition cows induce cellular dyshomeostasis. Ubiquitin-like modifier 1 ligating enzyme 1 (UFL1) can maintain cellular homeostasis and act as a critical regulator of stress responses besides functioning in the ubiquitin-like system. The objective of this study was to elucidate the UFL1 working mechanism on promoting cellular adaptations in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMECs) in response to NEFA challenge, with an emphasis on the ER and mitochondrial function.

To improve the identification accuracy of pressure fluctuation signals in the draft tube of hydraulic turbines, this study proposes an improved manta ray foraging optimization (ITMRFO) algorithm to optimize the identification method of a probabilistic neural network (PNN). Specifically, first, discrete wavelet transform was used to extract features from vibration signals, and then, fuzzy c-means algorithm (FCM) clustering was used to automatically classify the collected information. In order to solve the local optimization problem of the manta ray foraging optimization (MRFO) algorithm, four optimization strategies were proposed.
