Evaluating research activity in research departments and education programs is conventionally accomplished through measurement of research funding or bibliometrics. This limited perspective of research activity restricts a more comprehensive evaluation of a program's actual research capacity, ultimately hindering efforts to enhance and expand it. The objective of this study was to conduct a scoping review of the existing literature pertaining to the measurement of research productivity in research institutions.

To describe early resident recruitment outcomes of the RRPD grants program. A cross-sectional survey of program directors or administrators of these 25 new rural residency training programs across the United States was administered at RRPD award conclusion in 2022.

This study examined how gender, race, and other attributes affect family medicine department chairs' experiences with sponsoring, mentoring, and coaching (SMC). We identified strategies at multiple levels to enhance SMC for faculty from underrepresented groups (URGs).

A VUS in a hereditary cancer gene should not change medical care, yet some patients undergo medical procedures based on their VUS result, highlighting the unmet educational needs among patients and healthcare providers. To address this need, we developed, evaluated, and refined novel educational materials to explain that while VUS results do not change medical care, it remains important to share any personal or family history of cancer with family members given that their personal and family medical history can guide their cancer risk management.

Methods: A selection of 50 fetal MRIs of patients with an isolated diaphragmatic hernia and associated radiology reports from five different senior radiologists from a single center resulted in a primary structured report, which was put into practice by using dedicated software. A questionnaire survey of the interdisciplinary CDH study group Mannheim was used to adapt the report to the clinical requirements.
Importance: The optimal surgical repair of vaginal vault prolapse after hysterectomy remains undetermined.
Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of 3 surgical approaches for vaginal vault prolapse after hysterectomy.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This was a multisite, 3-arm, superiority and noninferiority randomized clinical trial.
Paxillin is a ubiquitously expressed adaptor protein integral to focal adhesions, cell motility, and apoptosis. Paxillin has also recently been implicated as a mediator of nongenomic androgen receptor (AR) signaling in prostate cancer and other cells. We sought to investigate the relationship between paxillin and AR in granulosa cells (GCs), where androgen actions, apoptosis, and focal adhesions are of known importance, but where the role of paxillin is understudied.

Objective: This study aimed to compare clinician vs patient grading of adverse event severity in a urogynecologic surgical trial.
Objective: UK endoscopy training is delivered by trainers possessing well developed endoscopy and teaching skills to help learners perform high-quality endoscopy. Train The Trainer (TTT) courses are effective, but additional trainer support is variable with little formal quality assurance. We performed a survey to map UK endoscopy training, assess trainer perspectives on training delivery and identify factors that would enhance training.

Aims And Methods: U.S nationally representative data from adults in the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study (2013/14-2021, Waves 1-6) who smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days (P30D) were analyzed (n = 13 640).

Study Objective: To provide a brief overview of noncongenital causes of vaginal obliteration and stenosis, discuss a unique case of vaginal agglutination in a patient who developed genital graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after receiving a bone marrow transplant (BMT), and present the steps of a laparoscopic total hysterectomy and lysis of vaginal adhesions that successfully restored vaginal patency without the need for grafting.
Design: This video gives an overview of noncongenital causes of vaginal obliteration with a focus on genital GVHD.
Setting: GVHD is a known possible complication of BMT.
Background And Objectives: Resident burnout may affect career choices and empathy. We examined predictors of burnout among family medicine residents.
Methods: We used data from the 2019-2021 American Board of Family Medicine Initial Certification Questionnaire, which is required of graduating residents.

Objectives: Residency programs must gather and track data on the diversity of their applicants, interviewees, and matched residents as part of the process of checking for bias in the interview and rank process. As such, the aims of this study were (1) to provide data from a large, regional network of family medicine residencies on who is applying, interviewing, and matching into our programs as a baseline for the family medicine residency community; and (2) to assess potential differences in the gender and racial diversity of the eligible applicants to programs across settings, including in rural and underserved communities.
Methods: Survey of programs in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Washington and Wyoming about their applicant pool in the 2020-2021 interview season.

The Family Medicine Discovers Rapid Cycle Scientific Discovery and Innovation (FMD RapSDI) program is designed to build capacity for family medicine scientific discovery and innovation in the United States. Our objective was to describe the applicants and research questions submitted to the RapSDI program in 2019 and 2020.

To investigate the role of paxillin in granulosa cells, we created a granulosa-specific paxillin knockout mouse model using Cre recombinase driven by the Anti-Müllerian hormone receptor 2 gene promoter. Female granulosa-specific paxillin knockout mice demonstrated increased fertility in later reproductive age, resulting in higher number of offspring when bred continuously up to 26 weeks of age.

Through this mixed-methods study, we investigated cancer risk management decisions among females with pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in PALB2, CHEK2, and ATM to understand why some patients follow National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines, whereas others do not.
Methods: Survey and interview data were cross-analyzed using a 3-stage approach.
Purpose: Although researchers have identified factors associated with research capacity in academic medicine departments, less is known about how a department builds research capacity over time. The Association of Departments of Family Medicine's Research Capacity Scale (RCS) can be used by departments to self-categorize into five capacity levels. Our current study aimed to describe the distribution of infrastructure features and to evaluate how the addition of infrastructure features influences movement of a department along the RCS.
