Objective: To study the relationships between polymorphisms of angiotensin-converting enzyme 1 (ACE-1) gene and N(5),N(10) -methylene-tetra-hydrofolic acid reductase (MTHFR) gene and ischemic stroke (IS).
Methods: The polymorphisms of ACE-1 and MTHFR genes in the peripheral white blood cells of 143 patients with IS and 154 controls were analyzed using PCR- RFLP.
Results: The frequencies of II, ID, and DD genotypes of ACE-1 gene were 37.

Based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of sixteen Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) with GC and GC-MSD, the concentrate distribution and transportation characteristics of PAHs in suspended particulate matter (SPM) and surface sediments (SS) from the Pearl River Estuary were studied. Whether in SPM or in SS, the concentration distribution of PAHs were characterized by acenaphthene (mean 55.5 microg/g in SPM, 226 ng/g in SS) with subordinate amounts of the tri- and tetra-cycle PAHs such as fluorene, fluoranthene, phenaphene and pyrene.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe metabolic activation of (S)-5,6-difluoro-4-cyclopropylethynyl-4-trifluoromethyl-3,4-dihydro-2(1H)-quinazolinone, DPC 963, in rats was investigated by identifying and characterizing the GSH and mercapturic acid conjugates excreted in the bile and urine, respectively. The structures of these adducts, which were unequivocally elucidated by LC/MS/MS and NMR experiments, revealed the existence of at least three distinct metabolic pathways leading to these products. One of the pathways, which has been described previously, involves the activation of the acetylene group after an initial hydroxylation on the methine carbon of the cyclopropyl ring.
