Pyrene (Pr) was used to improve the electrochemical and electrochromic properties of polythiophene copolymerized with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT). The corresponding product, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene-co-Pyrene) (P(EDOT-co-Pr)), was successfully synthesized by electrochemical polymerization with different monomer concentrations in propylene carbonate solution containing 0.1 M lithium perchlorate (LiClO/PC (0.

Article Synopsis
  • - Over the last ten years, there has been growing interest in plasmonic vortices, which are linked to orbital angular momentum and play a key role in light-matter interactions and plasmonic spin-orbit coupling.
  • - Traditional methods of studying these vortices in the frequency domain lack detailed insights into their evolution, prompting a new investigation into a unique vortex mode that is only observable in the time domain.
  • - The study demonstrates that this temporally varying vortex can be manipulated through design and specific light beams, enhancing our understanding of plasmonic spin-orbit coupling and offering new strategies for optical control in future research.

Objective: Ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) is a novel -lactam/-lactamase inhibitor with activity against carbapenem-resistant  (CRKP) that produce  carbapenemase (KPC). In this study, we report the first cases of CZA resistance to develop during treatment of CRKP infections and identify the resistance mechanism.

Methods: APB/EDTA and NG-Test CARBA5 were used to detect the production of carbapenemase, whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and conjugation experiment were used to identify potential resistance mechanisms of CZA-susceptible (HX1032) and -resistant (HX1192)  isolates.

The ability to achieve independent complex amplitude control across multiple channels can significantly increase the information capacity of photonic devices. Diffraction inherently holds numerous channels, which are good candidates for dense light manipulation in angular space. However, no convenient method is currently available for attaining this.

The composition and physiochemical properties of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) significantly impact the electrochemical cyclability of the Li metal. Here, we introduce a trace dual-salt electrolyte additive (TDEA) that accelerates LiF production from FEC decomposition and improves the LiF distribution, resulting in earlier LiF precipitation and the formation of a LiF-rich SEI on the Li anode. TDEA at a millimolar-level concentration was found to alter the morphology of deposited Li, suppress Li dendrite formation, and increase the cycling time and operating current density for Li anodes.

Background: Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) represents as a significant health concern, particularly as the population ages. Currently, there is a paucity of comprehensive descriptions regarding the immunoregulatory mechanisms and early diagnostic biomarkers associated with PMOP. This study aims to examine immune-related differentially expressed genes (IR-DEGs) in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of PMOP patients to identify immunological patterns and diagnostic biomarkers.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on improving the identification of Nocardia spp., a rare but serious pathogen, using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry compared to standard molecular methods for accurate diagnosis and timely treatment.
  • - 76 clinical Nocardia isolates were classified into 12 species, with MALDI Biotyper 3.1 achieving 100% genus-level accuracy and an 84.2% species accuracy, while the MBT Compass 4.1 increased species accuracy to 98.7% thanks to an updated database.
  • - The Bruker mass spectrometer effectively identifies Nocardia species with some limitations for Nocardia brasiliensis, but improvements were noted with different database versions, enhancing species identification

Background: Monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4) is a novel biomarker related to the level of immune cell infiltration, but its impact on tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) of colorectal liver oligometastases (CLO) remains unclear. The aim of this study was to assess MCT4 expression in primary tumor and liver oligometastases, investigate its impact on immune cell infiltration and its prognostic value for CLO patients undergoing liver resection.

Methods: We retrospectively selected 135 CLO patients who underwent curative liver resection between June 1999 and December 2016, and samples included 74 primary tumor tissues and 122 liver metastases.

Background: The log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) was considered a superior staging system to N stage in colon cancer, yet its value in determining the optimal duration of adjuvant chemotherapy for stage III colon cancer patients has not been evaluated. This study aims to assess the prognostic value of a model that combines LODDS with clinicopathological information for stage III colon cancer patients and aims to stratify these patients using the model, identifying individuals who could benefit from varying durations of adjuvant chemotherapy.

Method: A total of 663 consecutive patients diagnosed with stage III colon cancer, who underwent colon tumor resection between November 2007 and June 2020 at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and Longyan First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, were enrolled in this study.

Objective: To investigate pantothenate kinases 1 (PANK1) expression in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) tissues, analyze its correlation with clinicopathological features and prognosis, and explore its impact on invasion, migration, and apoptosis in KIRC cells.

Methods: GEPIA (gene expression profiling interactive analysis), UALCAN and LinkedOmics, were employed to analyze PANK1 expression in KIRC tissues and its correlation with clinical characteristics. Comparative analyses were performed between KIRC (Caki-1 and 786-O) and noncancerous renal cells (HK-2 and RPTEC).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the link between the virulence and carbapenem resistance in strains isolated from blood infections, focusing on identifying carbapenem-resistant and hypervirulent strains (CR-HVKP).
  • Researchers analyzed 192 strains from patient blood cultures between 2016 and 2019, with 96 being carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) and 96 carbapenem-sensitive (CSKP), employing various tests to assess drug susceptibility and virulence.
  • Findings showed significant differences in antibiotic resistance, with CRKP strains having fewer virulence genes and only one CR-HVKP strain detected, which exhibited strong biofilm formation and increased resistance to serum compared to CSKP strains.

Although the safety and short-term outcomes of robotic surgery for sigmoid colon and rectal cancer patients are well-documented, there is limited research on the long-term survival outcomes of robotic colorectal surgery. This is a retrospective study that includes 502 patients who underwent either laparoscopic or robotic anterior resection and abdominoperineal resection for rectal or sigmoid colon cancer between August 2016 and September 2021. All patients were diagnosed with rectal or sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma.

Purpose: Resilience is considered as a protective factor that can assist individuals to reduce post-traumatic stress reactions. In recent years, armies in many countries have widely implemented resilience training programs before deployment to prevent or reduce post-deployment combat stress reactions. Therefore, this study aims to review what is known about resilience interventions for military personnel in pre deployment.

The conventional electrochemical detection strategy for alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is limited by the antigen-antibody (Ag-Ab) reactions and suffers from low sensitivity and poor reproducibility due to the inconsistency of Ab-modified electrodes. Herein, we designed and explored a sandwich-type electrochemical sensor for highly sensitive detection of AFP based on aptamer (Apt)-AFP-Ab interaction mode with silver@gold (Ag@Au) core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) as a signal amplifier. AuNPs were electrodeposited onto MXene (TiCT)-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to get AuNPs/MXene/GCE and further used as the signal amplification substrate.
