Edge contacts offer a significant advantage for enhancing the performance of semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) devices by interfacing with the metallic contacts on the lateral side, which allows the encapsulation of all of the channel material. However, despite intense research, the fabrication of feasible electrical edge contacts to TMDCs to improve device performance remains a great challenge, as interfacial chemical characterization via conventional methods is lacking. A major bottleneck in explicitly understanding the chemical and electronic properties of the edge contact at the metal-two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor interface is the small cross section when characterizing nominally one-dimensional edge contacts.

Three novel compounds, including an aromatic amino acid, dimorine A (1), a suncheonoside derivative, dimoroside A (2), and a phenylpropanoid glycoside, dimoroside B (3), together with four known compounds (4-7) were separated from Umbelopsis dimorpha VDG10, the predominant endophytic fungus found in the roots of Vaccinium dunalianum Wight (Ericaceae). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, and the ECD spectrum confirmed the absolute configuration of 3. The development of two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors is limited by the lack of doping methods. We propose surface isovalent substitution as an efficient doping mechanism for 2D semiconductors by revealing the evolution of the structure and electronic properties of 2D Se/Te. Because of the different electronegativity of Se and Te, Se substitution for Te at the specific lattice sites introduces electric dipoles and leads to charge redistribution, which lowers the work function and tunes the Te films from p-type to n-type semiconductors.

Liquid scintillator consists of an organic solvent and one or more scintillation solutes, which can emit light pulses after absorbing X- and γ-rays, or high-energy particles. It has the characteristics of strong neutron/γ-ray (n/γ) discrimination, short decay time, unlimited size and low cost, which plays an important role in high-sensitivity and large-scale radiation detection, especially in the construction and safe operation of nuclear facilities. Contrary to oxide or polymeric glasses, metallic glasses are infamously known for their relatively limited thermal stability, which is often characterized by their narrow supercooled liquid regions. Nonetheless, we successfully fabricated metallic-glass based nanomembranes with an ultrahigh thermal ability by a polymer surface buckling enabled exfoliation technique. These nanomembranes exhibit a distinctive nanostructure with nanosized metallic-glasses encapsulated within an interconnected nanoamorphous-oxide network.

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death that occurs due to the peroxidation of phospholipids in the cell membrane. In this study, we find that the protein level of NSUN2 is significantly decreased in hepatocyte ferroptosis. This is attributed to STUB1-mediated ubiquitination of NSUN2 at lysines 457 and 654, promoting NSUN2 degradation in ferroptosis.

One-dimensional (1D) conjugated metal-organic frameworks (c-MOFs) have garnered widespread research interest in chemical energy storage and conversion. In this work, we introduce a universal principle to engineer the topological bands of 1D c-MOFs. Connected by orbitals of transition metals, two equivalent hidden molecular π orbitals in 1D c-MOFs can generate a staggered hopping within and between the organic ligands, forming Su-Schrieffer-Heeger-shaped 1D topological bands.

Enhanced electronic coupling gives rise to many intriguing properties in π-d conjugated metal-organic frameworks (CMOFs). By low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory calculation, we investigate the electronic coupling in one-dimensional (1D) π-d conjugated FeQDI polymers. Our experiments have resolved the bulk and end states stemming from Fe atoms in different coordination environments and their spatial extension due to π-d conjugation.

Method: We used data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 database to comprehensively assess ischemic stroke indicators globally, regionally, and in 204 countries, including incidence, deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), estimated annual percentage change (EAPC), and Joinpoint regression analysis.

Results: In 2021, there were a total of 7,804,449 cases of ischemic stroke globally (95% uncertainty interval = 6,719,760-8,943,692), with an age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of 92.
