The aim of this trial was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-articular administration of tranexamic acid (TXA) plus diluted-epinephrine (DEP) on perioperative blood loss and transfusion in primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) without drainage. One hundred patients scheduled to undergo TKA were randomized into two groups: 50 patients received intra-articular 3g TXA plus 0.25mg DEP (1:200,000), and 50 patients received 3g topical TXA alone.

Moreover, we sought to validate the prognostic value of the new AJCC criterion. Data of 145 consecutive patients who were all surgically treated and histologically diagnosed as p-NETs from January 2002 to June 2013 in our single institution were retrospectively collected and analyzed.

An unprecedented palladium-catalyzed oxidative annulation of acrylamides with benzyne precursors has been successfully developed. By using this mild "N-H activation/Heck reaction" method, a wide variety of quinolinones were conveniently prepared in one step with high efficiency.

In this work, we describe a first attempt to integrate in-source collision-induced dissociation (CID) to the SPI ion source in a SPI-MS instrument. The in-source CID was accomplished by elevating the pressure in the ion source to medium vacuum pressure (MVP) and raising the extraction voltage.

However, the high moisture in exhaled gas always brings about extra overlapping ion peaks and results in poor identification ability. In this paper, p-benzoquinone (PBQ) was introduced into IMS to eliminate the interference of overlapping ion peaks and realize the selective identification of NO.

The results show that the concentrations of these elements are highest near the platforms. The results of Enrichment Factor (EF) and Potential Ecological Risk Index (PERI) also reveal significantly higher enrichment around the platforms, which imply that the offshore petroleum production was the cause of the unusual distribution and severe enrichment of these elements in the study area.

The parameters including radio frequency voltage, sampling flow rate, permeation time and trapping time were optimized to 1000 V, 50 mL/min, 30 min and 150 s, respectively. The linear range for dioxane was obtained from 2.

The present study focused on determining the protection offered by Vitamin C against spinal injury-induced kidney damage in wistar rats. The experimental protocol was performed with three groups; Sham, SCI and Vitamin C [20 mg/kg/bw] followed by SCI.

Although ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) has been proved to be the most effective method for screening organic explosives, it still faces a major challenge to detect inorganic explosives owing to their low volatilities. Herein, we proposed a strategy for detecting trace inorganic explosives by thermal desorption ion mobility spectrometry (TD-IMS) with sample-to-sample analysis time less than 5 s based on in-situ acidification on the sampling swabs.

A high-resolution sediment core off the Minjiang estuary area in the Taiwan Strait, SE China, records the sedimentation history from approximately 1660 to the present. The alkane ratio C31/C17, a classic organic geochemical indicator of terrestrial/aquatic matter, peaks in the layers dating as 1876-1878 and 1968-1970, suggesting the large terrestrial input to the Minjiang estuary area by huge flood transporting during the each peak interval.

However, little is known about the time-dependent wear behavior of ceramic restorations during the chewing process. The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the dynamic evolution of the wear behavior of veneering porcelain in PFM crowns as wear progressed, as tested in a chewing simulator.

The easier desolvation property of the charged droplets formed in nanoESI source enabled complete desolvation of the product ions of sixteen amines and drugs using the nanoESI-IMS at ambient temperature. Working at ambient temperature was good for suppressing the dissociation of thermal volatile ions, such as only the proton adducted molecular ions were observed for morphine in the nanoESI-IMS.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA home-made chemical ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS) has been developed for continuous measurements of atmospheric hydroxyl radical. Based on the atmospheric pressure chemical ionization technique, an ionization source with orthogonal dual tube structure was adopted in the instrument, which minimized the interference between the reagent gas ionization and the titration reaction. A 63Ni radioactive source was fixed inside one of the orthogonal tubes to generate reactant ion of NO(-)(3) from HNO3 vapor.

Methods: From January 2010 to June 2012, 17 patients (24 knees) with patello-femoral compartmental osteoarthritis treated by PFJ were reviewed retrospectively. There were 2 male patients (4 knees) and 15 female patients (15 knees), with an average age of (64 ± 9) years (52-77 years) .
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone malignancy in children and teenagers, and its clinical outcome remains poor. Previous studies have investigated the association between excision repair cross-complementing (ERCC) and prognosis of osteosarcoma patients, but their results were inconsistent. We aimed to clarify the associations between ERCC polymorphisms and osteosarcoma prognosis by using meta-analysis.

Background: The incidence of total hip replacement in the younger and more active patients is ever increasing. The ceramic-on-ceramic (COC) bearing was developed to reduce wear debris-induced osteolysis and loosening and to improve the longevity of hip arthroplasties. Few studies have reported the clinical results and complications of the new zirconia-toughened ceramic total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Resveratrol (RES) is natural polyphenol with a strong biological activity, but its disadvantages, such as poor water solubility, susceptibility to oxidative decomposition and rapid metabolism in the body, which substantially restricts in vivo bioavailability, need to be resolved. This study used carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) as a drug carrier and utilized emulsion cross-linking to prepare RES-loaded CMCS nanoparticles (RES-CMCSNPs). A single-factor experiment was performed to optimize the preparation of these particles; in vitro and in vivo characteristics were evaluated.

Taxifolin is a kind of flavanonol, whose antioxidant ability is superior to that of ordinary flavonoids compounds owing to its special structure. However, its low bioavailability is a major obstacle for biomedical applications, so the experiment is designed to prepare taxifolin nanoparticles by liquid antisolvent precipitation (LAP) to improve its bioavailability. We selected ethanol as solvent, deionized water as antisolvent, and investigated primarily the type of surfactant and adding amount, drug concentration, volume ratio of antisolvent to solvent, precipitation temperature, dropping speed, stirring speed, stirring time factors affecting drug particles size.
