Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of FreeStyle Libre Pro (FSL-Pro) continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in patients with type 2 diabetes and acute myocardial infarction.
  • A total of 97 patients participated, undergoing blood glucose tests and CGM, revealing that CGM indicated significantly lower average blood glucose levels compared to traditional finger-prick tests, especially in the first day.
  • The results also showed that while CGM detected more instances of hypoglycemia, there was noted variability in its results compared to finger-prick testing, though a strong correlation between the two methods was established.

Objective: This study aimed to quantify the severity of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and investigate its association with cardiovascular disease(CVD) risk on Chinese adults.

Methods: 13,500 participants from the Zhejiang Adult Chronic Disease Study were followed up between 2010 and 2021. A continuous MetS severity score derived from the five components of MetS was used to quantify MetS severity, and the association between MetS severity and the risk of incident CVD was assessed using Cox proportional hazard and restricted cubic spline regression.

Article Synopsis
  • A study conducted in Zhejiang Province, China, explored the link between diabetes and thyroid cancer risk, involving 2,937 thyroid cancer cases matched with 2,937 healthy controls from 2015 to 2017.
  • The study found that overall, there was no significant association between diabetes or its duration and thyroid cancer risk.
  • However, in certain groups (older adults, females, overweight/obese individuals, and those with a family history of diabetes), shorter diabetes duration (≤ 5 years) was linked to a lower risk of developing thyroid cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the relationship between reproductive factors, such as menstrual history and breastfeeding, and thyroid cancer risk in Chinese women, finding inconsistent results in prior research.
  • - Data was collected through a matched case-control study involving 2,261 pairs of female subjects, with analysis done using logistic regression to determine odds ratios for thyroid cancer risk.
  • - The results indicated that a later age at first pregnancy and longer breastfeeding duration were linked to a reduced risk of thyroid cancer, particularly in women aged 50 or younger.

Dihydromyricetin (DHY), a flavonoid component isolated from Ampelopsis grossedentata, exerts versatile pharmacological activities. However, the possible effects of DHY on diabetic vascular endothelial dysfunction have not yet been fully elucidated. In the present study, male C57BL/6 mice, wild type (WT) 129S1/SvImJ mice and sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) knockout (SIRT3) mice were injected with streptozotocin (STZ, 60 mg/kg/day) for 5 consecutive days.

Introduction: Previous research has indicated that weight control behaviors are linked to cigarette smoking, whether these relationships extend to electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) is unknown. This study aims to examine the association between weight control behaviors and current e-cigarette usage among middle and high school students in China.

Methods: Based on the 2017 Zhejiang Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 17359 students were included and relevant data involving e-cigarette and weight control behaviors were collected via self-reported questionnaires.

  • - The study aimed to identify factors affecting the age at natural menopause among over 17,000 postmenopausal Chinese women as part of the China Kadoorie Biobank research.
  • - It found the average age at onset of natural menopause was around 48.94 years, with specific lifestyle and demographic factors influencing whether menopause occurred early or late.
  • - Key associations included that higher education, moderate meat consumption, and having more children generally led to later menopause, while smoking, being underweight, and a high activity level were linked to earlier menopause.
