Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the combined use of two hypomethylating agents, azacitidine (5-Aza) and 3-deazaneplanocin (DZNep), to prevent acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).
  • Researchers optimized the doses and tested their effects in a mouse model, finding that the combination reduced harmful T helper and cytotoxic cells while increasing regulatory T cells compared to single treatments.
  • RNA sequencing revealed that the combination therapy works by influencing cytokine and chemokine pathways, ultimately improving the prevention of aGvHD.

Clinical data of patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) were retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the outcomes of haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HID-HSCT) with matched related sibling hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (MSD-HSCT) in complications and survivals. Thirty consecutive patients were enrolled in the study with a median follow-up of 50 months (range 4, 141), and the median age of the patients was 21 years (range 3, 49). All the patients achieved myeloid engraftment in the two cohorts.

The cardiac valvular endothelial cells (VECs) are an ideal cell source that could be used for making the valve organoids. However, few studies have been focused on the derivation of this important cell type. Here we describe a two-step chemically defined xeno-free method for generating VEC-like cells from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs).

This study is to measure the diagnostic examination quality of magnetic resonance spectroscopy in differentiating high-grade gliomas from metastases. PubMed, Embase, and Chinese Biomedical databases were systematically searched for relevant studies published through 10 July 2016. Based on the data from eligible studies, heterogeneity and threshold effect tests were performed; pooled sensitivity, specificity, and areas under summary receiver-operating characteristic curve of magnetic resonance spectroscopy were calculated.

Objective: To explore the prognostic value of interim F-FDG PET/CT (i-PET/CT) scan for the patients with newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

Methods: A total of 70 cases of initially diagnosed of DLBCL by 158 F-FDG PET/CT scans in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The 5-point scale, the Lugano classification and maximum standardized uptake value induction (ΔSUVmax) criteria were used respectively to assess i-PET/CT scans.

tRNA-derived small RNAs (tDRs) are a group of small, non-coding RNAs derived from transfer RNAs (tRNAs). They can be classified as tRNA halves and tRNA-derived small RNA fragments (tRFs). Accumulating experimental evidence suggests their functional roles in cells and in various biological processes.

tRNA-derived small RNA fragments (tRFs) are one class of small non-coding RNAs derived from transfer RNAs (tRNAs). tRFs play important roles in cellular processes and are involved in multiple cancers. High-throughput small RNA (sRNA) sequencing experiments can detect all the cellular expressed sRNAs, including tRFs.

The shortage of HLA-identical siblings or unrelated donors has restricted the application of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Few studies have systematically assessed survival and chronic health conditions (CHCs) in the same cohort of patients after HLA-mismatched/haploidentical (mismatched) family donor transplantation. In the present study, we retrospectively analyzed the survival of 127 adult patients receiving either HLA-matched (71 cases) or HLA-mismatched (56 cases) family donor transplantation.

Nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) materials have been proposed as next-generation oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts to significantly improve scalability and reduce costs, but these alternatives usually exhibit low activity and/or gradual deactivation during use. Here, we develop new 2D sandwich-like zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) derived graphene-based nitrogen-doped porous carbon sheets (GNPCSs) obtained by in situ growing ZIF on graphene oxide (GO). Compared to commercial Pt/C catalyst, the GNPCSs show comparable onset potential, higher current density, and especially an excellent tolerance to methanol and superior durability in the ORR.
