Topological phases are robust against weak perturbations, but break down when disorder becomes sufficiently strong. However, moderate disorder can also induce topologically nontrivial phases. Thouless pumping, as a (1+1)D counterpart of the integer quantum Hall effect, is one of the simplest manifestations of topology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates hydrodynamic transport properties in quantum dynamics to better understand exotic non-equilibrium phases of matter, focusing on simulating infinite-temperature transport in complex quantum systems.
  • By using a controllable superconducting quantum simulator, the researchers successfully prepared Haar-random states and observed diffusive spin transport with ergodic dynamics during the unitary evolution of a ladder-type quantum simulator.
  • They also examined the effects of strong disorder and tilted potential on transport properties, discovering signs of anomalous subdiffusion and thermalization breakdown, highlighting a scalable approach for investigating infinite-temperature spin transport.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares outcomes of two treatment strategies—reperfusion-first (with SMA stenting) and central repair-first—in patients with acute type A dissection complicated by mesenteric malperfusion.
  • Among 68 patients, results show that the reperfusion-first strategy led to significantly lower early mortality (19.4% vs. 48.6%) and fewer gastrointestinal and respiratory complications.
  • Five years later, reperfusion-first patients had better survival rates (80.6% vs. 45.9%) and similar rates of adverse events, supporting this strategy as beneficial for ATAAD patients with mesenteric issues.

To investigate the association between area deprivation index (ADI) and aortic valve replacement (AVR) in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). Patients aged 40-95 years with severe AS confirmed by echocardiography were included. The 9-digit zip code of patient residence address was used to identify the ADI ranking, based on which patients were divided into 5 groups (with Group E being most deprived).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on using a 43-qubit superconducting quantum processor, called Chuang-tzu, to simulate exotic topological phases of quantum matter and explore their properties.
  • - Researchers engineered diagonal Aubry-André-Harper models and successfully demonstrated the Hofstadter butterfly energy spectrum, along with experimental verification of topological zero modes, which had not been observed before.
  • - The significant number of qubits enables the capture of complex topological features in quantum systems, paving the way for advanced simulations of quantum topological systems using noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) technology.

Objectives: The prevalence and aetiology of acute aortic dissection type A (AADA) in patients ≤30 years is unknown. The aims of this clinical study were to determine the prevalence and potential aetiology of AADA in surgically treated patients ≤30 years and to evaluate the respective postoperative outcomes in this selective group of patients in a large multicentre study.

Methods: Retrospective data collection was performed at 16 participating international aortic institutions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how pre-stroke sleep quality affects cognitive function three months after an acute ischemic stroke (AIS).
  • Out of 1,759 AIS patients, 52.1% experienced post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI), with those reporting very poor sleep quality prior to the stroke having a significantly higher risk.
  • The findings suggest that issues like poor sleep quality and sleep fragmentation are independent risk factors for cognitive decline after a stroke, particularly among certain demographics like educated or unemployed individuals.

As an approach to coronary artery ostial injury in type A aortic dissection and infective endocarditis, we describe a technique of coronary ostial repair using a ring-shaped bovine pericardial patch. The inner and outer rims of the patch were sutured to the involved coronary ostium (to close the ostial tear) and to the aortic wall (to cover the sinus), respectively. Four patients were successfully managed and computed tomographic coronary arteriogram at follow-up showed patent coronary ostia and arteries.

Purpose: The impact of poor sleep quality after stroke, especially persistent poor sleep quality, on poststroke anxiety and depression is unclear. We seek to investigate the impact of baseline and persistent poor sleep quality on short-term poststroke anxiety and depression.

Patients And Methods: Data were analyzed for 1619 patients with acute ischemic stroke from the Impairment of Cognition and Sleep after Acute Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack in Chinese Patients study (ICONS).

Objectives: Data are scarce and mixed regarding the impact of preoperative dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) on the surgical outcomes of acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). We seek to evaluate the impact of DAPT on bleeding-related events and early- and mid-term mortality after total arch replacement and frozen elephant trunk in such patients.

Methods: This study comprised 48 ATAAD patients on preoperative DAPT and 418 without DAPT (the whole series, i.

Background: Although obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is prevalent among patients with aortic dissection, its prognostic impact is not yet determined in patients undergoing major vascular surgery. We aimed to investigate the association of OSA with hypoxaemia and with prolonged intensive care unit (ICU) stay after type A aortic dissection (TAAD) repair.

Methods: This retrospective study continuously enrolled 83 patients who underwent TAAD repair from January 1 to December 31, 2018.

Background: The blood pressure of cervical spondylosis (CS) patients with hypertension often returns to normal after decompressive cervical surgery (DCS). However, the effect of DCS on the blood pressure of patients with CS has not been rigorously studied.

Methods: We recruited 50 consecutive CS patients with hypertension from 2014-2017 and investigated the changes in blood pressure after DCS using a time series design.

Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common and complex chronic complications of diabetes, but it is clinically lacking effective means for early diagnosis and early treatment. MicroRNA, in the occurrence and development of the disease, has an important regulatory role. Its role in diabetes has been reported more.

Abnormal sleep duration predicts depression and anxiety. We seek to evaluate the impact of sleep duration before stroke on the occurrence of depression and anxiety at 3 months after acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Nationally representative samples from the Third China National Stroke Registry were used to examine cognition and sleep impairment after AIS (CNSR-III-ICONS).

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined whether a 45 mm size criterion for ascending aortic replacement (AAR) in patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) improves early surgical outcomes during aortic valve replacement (AVR).
  • Data from 306 BAV patients showed that those who underwent AVR with AAR had better postoperative heart function and a lower rate of early adverse events compared to those who had AVR only.
  • The findings suggest that adhering to the 45 mm criterion is linked to fewer complications, indicating it may enhance early outcomes after surgery.
