Purpose: The prognosis for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients is drastically impacted by the presence of lymph node or liver metastases at diagnosis or resection. On this basis it is sought to identify novel proteins as biomarkers and determinants of CRC metastasis.

Experimental Design: Proteomic analyses are undertaken using primary tissues from ten Chinese CRC patients presenting with or without liver metastases and immunohistochemistry used to validate selected proteins in an independent patient cohort.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to examine the levels of adiponectin in the placenta and its relationship with preeclampsia in pregnant women.
  • Researchers collected placental samples from three groups: normal pregnancies, mild preeclampsia, and severe preeclampsia, and used immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR to measure adiponectin protein and mRNA levels.
  • Results showed that adiponectin protein levels were significantly lower in the severe preeclampsia group compared to both normal and mild preeclampsia groups, suggesting a potential link between reduced adiponectin expression and the severity of preeclampsia.
