Article Synopsis
  • Gastric intestinal metaplasia (IM) is identified as a precancerous condition linked to a higher risk of stomach cancer, and Weiwei Decoction (WWD) is a traditional Chinese herbal remedy aimed at treating IM.
  • The study aimed to investigate how WWD affects the OLFM4/NOD1/CDX2 signaling pathway in IM, utilizing various laboratory methods including immunohistochemistry and cell models.
  • Results showed that the OLFM4/NOD1/CDX2 pathway is crucial for IM progression, with WWD enhancing gastric tissue health by reducing OLFM4 and increasing NOD1 expression, ultimately leading to decreased CDX2 levels.

Background: Serum exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) have been suggested as novel biomarkers for various diseases, especially gastric cancer (GC). But circulating biomarkers for Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) which is defined as precancrerous lesions of GC remain largely elusive. To investigate serum exosomal miRNAs that are differently expressed in CAG patients and Chronic nonatrophic gastritis (CNAG) may be helpful for its diagnosis and therapy.

Objective: This study evaluates the inhibitory effect of IPO against ischemia reperfusion (I/R) induced lung injury in rats.

Methods: Anesthetized and mechanically ventilated adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to one of the following groups (n=12 each): the sham operated control group, the ischemia-reperfusion (IR) group (30min of left-lung ischemia and 24h of reperfusion), the IPO group (three successive cycles of 30-s reperfusion per 30-s occlusion before restoring full perfusion), and the dexamethasone plus IPO group (rats were injected with dexamethasone (3mg/kg·day(-1)) 10min prior to the experiment and the rest of the procedures were the same as the IPO group). Lung injury was assessed by wet-to-dry lung weight ratio and tissue apoptosis and biochemical changes.

Aim: To investigate the in vivo and in vitro protective effects of pentamethylquercetin (PMQ), a member of polymethoxy flavonoids (PMFs), on cardiac hypertrophy.

Methods: An in vivo cardiac hypertrophy model established by abdominal aorta banding technique in rats was treated with PMQ in increasing dosages (2.5, 5, and 10 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)).

Duck enteritis virus (DEV) is a herpesvirus that causes an acute, contagious, and fatal disease. In the present article, we introduce a quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for DEV DNA using TaqMan technology and a two-step protocol. It was confirmed to be rapid, sensitive, and specific for DEV detection.
