Article Synopsis
  • This study reports on the initial experience of one-stage flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy (FURL) using specific ureteral access sheaths and digital flexible ureteroscopes for treating upper ureteral and renal stones in 900 adult patients.
  • The results show that the procedure was successful for the majority, with a stone-free rate of nearly 90% one month post-surgery, while only a small percentage experienced complications like fever or pain.
  • The study concludes that FURL is a practical, safe, and effective treatment option for most adults with upper urinary tract stones, without the need for stenting prior to the procedure.

Background: Ureteroscopy is well-established as a primary treatment modality for urolithiasis. Ureteral avulsion, particularly complete or full-length avulsion with a resultant long segment of the ureter left attached to the ureteroscope, is a rare but devastating complication of the procedure. Management of this complication is challenging.

As an important regulator, ethylene inhibits root growth and development in plants. To determine the mechanism of ethylene on root elongation growth and lateral root formation, ethylene-induced lignification and cell wall-degrading enzymes in the roots of mungbean sprouts were tested. We initially observed that primary root elongation and lateral root numbers were inhibited, while lignin content was enhanced by ethephon (ETH).
