Recent theory has demonstrated that Kagome photonic crystals (PCs) support first-order and second-order topological phenomena. Here, we extend the topological physics of the Kagome lattice to surface electromagnetic waves and experimentally show a Kagome surface-wave PC. Under the protection of first-order and second-order topologies, both robust edge modes and in-gap corner modes are observed.

Methods: Seventy patients of PMOP were randomized into an observation group (35 cases, 4 cases dropped off ) and a control group (35 cases, 3 cases dropped off ). The patients of both groups were treated with calcium carbonate D3 tablets orally (600 mg each time, once daily).
Three-dimensional (3D) artificial metacrystals host rich topological phases, such as Weyl points, nodal rings, and 3D photonic topological insulators. These topological states enable a wide range of applications, including 3D robust waveguides, one-way fiber, and negative refraction of the surface wave. However, these carefully designed metacrystals are usually very complex, hindering their extension to nanoscale photonic systems.

To investigate the effects of Bushen Zhuanggu granule on the expressions of serum growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) and their receptors in bone tissues of ovariectomized rats. Forty-eight SD female rats (weight 273±21.3 g) were divided into 4 four groups: the dosage of Bushen Zhuanggu granule group (BSZG) was 2.

The process is controlled by many factors, including regulation of cyclins in spermatogenic cells, which plays a pivotal role. Cyclins form heterologous dimer compounds with protein kinase activity by binding to cyclin-dependent kinases, then phosphorylate multiple proteins and promote the orderly conduct of each phase of the cell cycle.

Adipose tissue has been considered as a crucial source of certain pro-inflammatory cytokines; conversely, these pro-inflammatory cytokines are involved in regulating the proliferation and apoptosis of adipocytes, promoting lipolysis, inhibiting lipid synthesis and decreasing blood lipids, etc. In recent decades, extensive studies have indicated that pro-inflammatory cytokines play important roles in the development of lipid metabolism of metabolic diseases, including obesity, atherosclerosis, steatohepatitis and hyperlipoproteinemia. However, the involved pro-inflammatory cytokines types and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown.

In this Letter, using near-field scanning measurements, we show the direct observation of corner states in second-order topological photonic crystal slabs consisting of periodic dielectric rods on a perfect electric conductor. Based on the generalized two-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, we show that the emergence of corner states roots in the nonzero edge dipolar polarization instead of the nonzero bulk quadrupole polarization.

In this review, we examined the literature from the recent years concerning the study of IL-17A in four kinds of tumor transfer paths, including hematogenous metastasis, lymphatic metastasis, local invasion and transcoelomic metastasis, to summarize the roles and underlying mechanisms of IL-17A on tumor metastasis.

However, the nature of the relationship is largely unknown. The aim of this study was to identify novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in T2D and birth weight, and their pleiotropic loci.

Recent studies have shown that circulating serotonin plays a potential role in bone metabolism. However, conflicting results have been reported for the relationship between serum serotonin concentrations and bone mineral density (BMD). We investigated whether the serum serotonin concentrations related to BMD in Chinese postmenopausal women.

However, the underlying signaling pathway of its osteogenic effect remains unclear. Here, we investigated whether icariin could promote osteogenesis of rBMSCs through modulating the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways, which implicated in rBMSCs osteogenesis.

Methods: This cross-sectional study comprised 188 women and 122 men aged 17-88 years who were randomly sampled among community-dwelling Guangzhou residents. BMD at the lumbar spine and femoral neck was measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, and serum concentrations of 25(OH)D, parathyroid hormone (PTH), procollagen I N-terminal peptide, and beta C-telopeptide of collagen were assayed by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay.
Background & Objectives: Vitamin D insufficiency is prevalent in postmenopausal women and has been related to low bone mineral density (BMD). However, controversial results have been reported for the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels and BMD. This study was done to investigate whether serum 25(OH)D levels were associated with BMD in postmenopausal women living in Guangzhou in southern China.

Osteopontin (OPN) is an extracellular matrix protein that is expressed in bone cells such as osteoblast and osteocytes and associated with bone turnover and bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women. Here, we aimed to investigate the relationship between circulating OPN levels and BMD in postmenopausal women in Southern China. A total of 362 postmenopausal women were consecutively recruited into this study from 2011-2013.

ER expression is a dynamic phenomenon that is regulated by numerous factors, including cytokines, in the tumor microenvironment. Recently, studies have shown that autocrine production of IL-4 promotes cancer cell growth and there is negative correlation between tumor IL-4 and hormone receptor levels, suggesting that there is crosstalk between cytokine receptors and ER.

However, the importance of many IL-17-producing cell types remains largely unknown in bone remodeling. Methods: Fifty 6-month-old female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into five groups: sham-operated (SHAM), ovariectomized (OVX), OVX with WBV (OVX + WBV), OVX with BZG (OVX + BZG), OVX with both WBV and BZG (OVX + WBV + BZG). The SHAM group received normal saline.
Objective(s): Studies have reported that whole body vibration (WBV) played a vital role in bone remodeling. Circulating serotonin is also involved in negative regulating bone mass in rodents and humans. However, both WBV and inhibition of serotonin biosynthesis may suppress receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclastogenesis in vitro.

Purpose: Fibrin sealant (FS) comprises a mixture of fibrinogen and thrombin that controls bleeding, reduces blood transfusions, improves tissue healing and shortens postoperative recovery time after various surgical procedures. However, no single study has been large enough to definitively determine whether fibrin sealant is safe and effective. We report a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy and safety of fibrin sealant in total knee arthroplasty.
