Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is a revolutionary tool for the diagnosis and staging of mediastinal disorders. Nevertheless, its diagnostic capability is reduced in certain disorders such as lymphoproliferative diseases. EBUS-guided transbronchial mediastinal cryobiopsy (EBUS-TBMC) is a novel technique that can provide larger samples with preserved tissue architecture, with an acceptable safety profile.

An Approach to the Examination of the Lumbar Plexus for Neurosurgical Residents: A Video Manuscript.

The lumbar plexus provides innervation to the lower limbs and is essential in enabling motor movement and sensation in the lower limbs. Some of its branches also innervate the muscles in the pelvic girdle. Compared to the brachial plexus in the upper limbs, the lumbar plexus appears to garner less recognition among physicians and surgeons.

Wireless sensor networks for indoor air quality monitoring.

The purpose of this study is to build an indoor air quality monitoring system based on wireless sensor networks (WSNs) technology. The main functions of the system include (1) remote parameter adjustment and firmware update mechanism for the sensors to enhance the flexibility and convenience of the system, (2) sensor nodes are designed by referring to the IEEE 1451.4 standard.

A study on work stress, stress coping strategies and health promoting lifestyle among district hospital nurses in Taiwan.

Objectives: To determine work stress, and stress-coping strategies, and to analyze their the relationships in order to improve health-promoting lifestyle of nurses in Taiwan.

Methods: Three hundred eighty-five nurses who had work experience for more than 6 mo, were selected from four district hospitals in Kaohsiung and Ping Tung. We used a stratified cluster random sampling method for the selection.

A healthcare integration system for disease assessment and safety monitoring of dementia patients.

Elderly dementia patients often get lost due to lack of a sense of direction. This may put them at risk and cause their families much worry. The goal of this study is to use information technology to enhance the professional judgment of caregivers, strengthen internal safety monitoring at care organizations, and improve the quality of care for dementia patients.

Antimicrobial effect of extracts of cruciferous vegetables.

The cruciferous vegetables cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, Chinese radish, Chinese kale, and Chinese kitam were used in this study to prepare water-soluble and methanol-water extracts. Crude protein extracts were also obtained by diethylaminoethyl (DEAE) anion exchange chromatography. Water-soluble polysaccharides were prepared by ethanol precipitation followed by ultrafiltration.

Recovery through reconnection: a cultural design for family bereavement in Taiwan.

Using reanalyzed data from ethnographic research performed in Taiwan during the 1990s, the authors inspect Taiwanese cultural patterns as they affect adaptation to loss in the form of death. The data include participant observations and the narratives of 52 widows and 30 of their children. An analysis of interview transcripts suggests that the most common form of return to a harmony house among the participants was achieving a sense of reconnection with the deceased.
