Lessons from COVID-19 in Taiwan's long-term care facilities: A narrative review.

The coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has disproportionately impacted long-term care facilities (LTCFs), revealing vulnerabilities due to residents' advanced age, comorbidities, and facility infrastructures. In Taiwan, the Central Epidemic Control Center implemented a range of strategies to protect LTCF residents. These included early containment measures to allow time for preparing pharmaceutical intervention, the establishment of infection prevention and control guidelines, the implementation of comprehensive screening and testing protocols, the prioritization of vaccination for both residents and staff, and the expansion of the national stockpile of oral antiviral agents.

Optimizing severe acute respiratory syndrome response strategies: lessons learned from quarantine.

Taiwan used quarantine as 1 of numerous interventions implemented to control the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome in 2003. From March 18 to July 31, 2003, 147,526 persons were placed under quarantine. Quarantining only persons with known exposure to people infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome could have reduced the number of persons quarantined by approximately 64%.

Prevalence of and major risk factors for adult bronchial asthma in Taipei City.

Background And Purpose: The prevalence of bronchial asthma has been on the rise worldwide, but the prevalence of adult asthma in Taiwan has not been reported. The objective of this study was to determine the current 1-year and lifetime asthma prevalence rates, and to identify major risk factors for adult asthma in Taiwan.

Methods: A cluster sampling was conducted in 1999, where 21 clusters and 4549 adults (age > or = 18 years) were selected randomly.
