[Pollution Assessment and Source Apportionment of Heavy Metals in the Surrounding Soil of Typical Mining Areas in Tongling, Anhui Province].

To study the level of heavy metal pollution and ecological risks in the soil around typical mining areas in Tongling, a total of 150 soil samples were collected from the study area. The content characteristics of 10 elements, namely, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Fe, and Zn, in the soils were analyzed. Methods including enrichment factor, the geo-accumulation index, single-factor pollution index, Nemero comprehensive pollution index, and potential ecological risk index were used to evaluate the pollution status of heavy metals in the soil of the study area.

[Establishment of a nomogram model to predict systemic inflammatory response syndrome after transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy].

Objective: To access the risk factors of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) after transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy of the prostate (TRUS-Bp) and establish a model and a nomogram for the prediction of SIRS after TRUS-Bp.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on 752 cases of TRUS-Bp in our hospital from January 2010 to January 2017 and included 570 of the cases in this study. We investigated the independent risk factors for SIRS after TRUS-Bp by univariate and logistic regression analyses, constructed a prediction model and nomogram with the R-Statistics software, evaluated the discrimination of the model with the ROC curve, and measured the conformity by SPSS25.

Hydrochemical characteristics and quality assessment of deep groundwater from the coal-bearing aquifer of the Linhuan coal-mining district, Northern Anhui Province, China.

There is little information available about the hydrochemical characteristics of deep groundwater in the Linhuan coal-mining district, Northern Anhui Province, China. In this study, we report information about the physicochemical parameters, major ions, and heavy metals of 17 groundwater samples that were collected from the coal-bearing aquifer. The results show that the concentrations of total dissolved solids, electrical conductivity, and potassium and sodium (K(+) + Na(+)) in most of the groundwater samples exceeded the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Chinese National Standards for Drinking Water Quality (GB 5749-2006).

A four actin-binding protein signature model for poor prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

The actin cytoskeleton is a dynamic structure with actin-binding proteins (ABPs) playing an essential role in the regulation of migration, differentiation and signal transduction in all eukaryotic cells. We examined the relationship between altered expression of four ABPs and clinical parameters in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). To this end, we analyzed 152 formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded esophageal curative resection specimens by immunohistochemistry for tensin, profilin-1, villin-1 and talin.

[Improvement of left ventricular hypertrophy by anemic-correcting erythropoietin therapy in chronic renal insufficiency].

Objective: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an independent predictor of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients. It remains unclear whether efforts to correct anemia in patients with mild-to-moderate chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) can reverse LVH. This prospective multi-center Chinese cohort study evaluates left ventricular mass index (LVMI) evolution in anemic CRI patients with or without recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) therapy.
