In this research, a microfluid-based extended gate field-effect transistor (EGFET) biosensor with an on-chip sensing window (OCSW) was fabricated. The detection window was composed of six metal layers, and a ruthenium dioxide (RuO) film was spattered on the surface and functionalized with lactase to detect lactic acid (LA). To detect LA in a more diversified way, a microfluidic system was integrated with the biosensor.

Superhydrophilic graphite surfaces and water-dispersible graphite colloids are obtained by electrochemical exfoliation with hydrophobic graphite electrodes. Such counterintuitive characteristics are caused by partial oxidation and investigated by examining both graphite electrodes and exfoliated particles after electrolysis. The extent of surface oxidation can be explored through contact angle measurement, scanning electron microscope, electrical sheet resistance, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, zeta-potential analyzer, thermogravimetric analysis, UV-visible, and Raman spectroscopy.

The ellipsometric measurement of local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) caused by the adsorption of chitosan on layer-by-layer gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) was investigated. Six nanometer (6 nm) Au NPs were prepared and layer-by-layer Au NPs were fabricated to shift the LSPR to 520, 540, and 560 nm, respectively, due to the Mie theory. The thicknesses and the fractions of the layer-by-layer Au NPs were measured accurately using a combination of the Fresnel equation and the Maxwell-Garnett equations for ellipsometry.

Oral candidiasis is associated with defects in cell-mediated immunity and is common among patients undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy, or corticosteroid or antibiotic therapy, and those patients seropositive for AIDS and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). This paper demonstrates the important role of cell-mediated immunity in oral candidiasis in 2 cases of thymoma associated with myasthenia gravis. Both suffered from recurrent oral candidiasis after a thymectomy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.
