Background: A predominate azole-resistant Candida tropicalis clade 4 genotype causing candidemia has been detected in not only Taiwan but also China, Singapore, and Australia. It can also be detected on fruit surfaces. In addition to determining distribution and drug susceptibilities of pathogenic yeasts in environments of intensive care units of 25 hospitals in Taiwan, we would also like to investigate whether the azole-resistant C.

We found that 25 of 294 Candida tropicalis isolates from TSARY 2014 and 31 of 314 C. tropicalis isolates from TSARY 2018 were resistant to fluconazole.

Comparison of M013 with the genomes of two CA-MRSA strains in the United States revealed major differences in the regions covering several genomic islands and prophages.

Background/purpose: Taiwan has never implemented supervised intermittent chemotherapy for pulmonary tuberculosis, and its application and results are unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of a 62-dose, four-drug, 6-month, twice-weekly regimen administered by directly observed therapy for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.
Methods: From January 2004 through December 2006, a total of 116 patients with suspected or confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis were enrolled.

This report is of a patient with isolated tuberculous epididymitis presenting with a scrotal tumor. A 65-year-old man presented with a rapidly growing, painless mass over his right testicle. A non-tender indurated tumor was identified in the right hemi-scrotum.

Three groups of 208 patients with tuberculosis in Taiwan were sampled to test this observation: (1) 41 aborigines of Austronesian ethnicity, who have been inhabiting in Taiwan for more than 500 years; (2) 58 veterans of Han Chinese origin, who moved as the first generation from Mainland China to Taiwan 55-60 years ago; and (3) 109 patients representing the general Taiwanese population of Han Chinese whose ancestors migrated to Taiwan around 200-400 years ago. A total of 208 MTB isolates, one per patient, were analyzed by spoligotyping and mycobacterial interspersed repetitive unit (MIRU) typing.
