Background: The a-secretase A disintegrin and metalloprotease-10 (ADAM-10) may have deleterious effects in acute brain injury. This study was designed to discern if a relationship between plasma ADAM-10 levels and functional outcome exists in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).

Methods: A total of 109 patients with basal ganglia hemorrhage and 100 healthy controls were included.

Serum S100A12 as a prognostic biomarker of severe traumatic brain injury.

Background: S100A12 is related to acute brain injury and inflammation. We investigated the clinical prognostic value of serum S100A12 in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI).

Methods: Serum S100A12, S100B, C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) concentrations were measured in 102 healthy controls and 102 sTBI patients.
