Background: Intraosseous regional administration (IORA) as a widely applicable and clinically valuable route of administration has gained significant attention in the context of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for the prophylactic administration of antibiotics. However, there is still controversy regarding its effectiveness and safety. The latest meta-analysis reports that the use of IORA for antibiotics in TKA is as safe and effective as IV administration in preventing prosthetic joint infection (PJI), but they did not separate the statistics for primary TKA and revision TKA, which may be inappropriate.

Maximizing the catalytic activity of single-atom and nanocluster catalysts through the modulation of the interaction between these components and the corresponding supports is crucial but challenging. Herein, guided by theoretical calculations, a nanoporous bilayer WS Moiré superlattices (MSLs) supported Au nanoclusters (NCs) adjacent to Ru single atoms (SAs) (Ru/Au-2LWS) is developed for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) for the first time. Theoretical analysis suggests that the induced robust electronic metal-support interaction effect in Ru/Au-2LWS is prone to promote the charge redistribution among Ru SAs, Au NCs, and WS MSLs support, which is beneficial to reduce the energy barrier for water adsorption and thus promoting the subsequent H formation.

The understanding of activated sludge microbial status and roles is imperative for improving and enhancing the performance of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). In this study, we conducted a deep analysis of activated sludge microbial communities across five compartments (inflow, effluent, and aerobic, anoxic, anaerobic tanks) over temporal scales, employing high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA amplicons and metagenome data. Clearly discernible seasonal patterns, exhibiting cyclic variations, were observed in microbial diversity, assembly, co-occurrence network, and metabolic functions.

Solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) detection plays a critical role in imaging and communication due to its low-noise background, high signal-to-noise ratio, and strong anti-interference capabilities. Detecting the polarization state of UV light can enhance image information and expand the communication dimension. Although polarization detection is explored in visible and infrared light, and applied in fields such as astrophysics and submarine seismic wave detection, solar-blind UV polarization detection remains largely unreported.

Rapid and continuous droplet shedding is crucial for many applications, including thermal management, water harvesting, and microfluidics, among others. Superhydrophobic surfaces, though effective, suffer from droplet pinning at high subcooling temperature (). Conversely, slippery liquid-like surfaces covalently bonded with flexible hydrophobic molecules show high stability and low droplet adhesion attributed to their dense and ultrasmooth water repellent polymer chains, enhancing dropwise condensation and rapid shedding.

Previous studies have demonstrated the roles of both microglia homeostasis and RNA editing in sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE), yet their relationship remains to be elucidated. In this study, we analyzed bulk and single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA) datasets containing 107 brain tissue and microglia samples from mice with microglial depletion and repopulation to explore canonical RNA editing associated with microglia homeostasis and evaluate its role in SAE. Analysis of mouse brain RNA-Seq revealed hallmarks of microglial repopulation, including peak expressions of Apobec1 and Apobec3 at Day 5 of repopulation and dramatically altered B2m RNA editing.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) have been increasingly recognized as a promising candidate for the next-generation energy-storage systems. This is primarily because LSBs demonstrate an unparalleled theoretical capacity and energy density far exceeding conventional lithium-ion batteries. However, the sluggish redox kinetics and formidable dissolution of polysulfides lead to poor sulfur utilization, serious polarization issues, and cyclic instability.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe injury to the central nervous system, and its treatment is always a major medical challenge. Proinflammatory cell death is considered an important factor affecting neuroinflammation and the prognosis after injury. PANoptosis, a newly discovered type of proinflammatory cell death, regulates the activation of executioner molecules of apoptosis, pyroptosis and necroptosis through the PANoptosome, providing a new target for therapeutic intervention after SCI.

  • - Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a complex autoimmune disease that current therapies struggle to effectively manage because they target only a single inflammatory molecule.
  • - The study introduces a new peptide called BP-FFVLK-DSGLDSM (BFD) that self-assembles into nanoparticles, allowing for better delivery to immune cells where it blocks harmful processes involving NF-κB/IκBα complexes.
  • - BFD shows promising results in reducing inflammation and damage in a rat model of collagen-induced arthritis, suggesting it could offer a new strategy for managing inflammatory diseases like RA.

The application of high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) technology enables the construction of chromosome-level assemblies. However, the correction of errors and the anchoring of sequences to chromosomes in the assembly remain significant challenges. In this study, we developed a deep learning-based method, AutoHiC, to address the challenges in chromosome-level genome assembly by enhancing contiguity and accuracy.

  • Resistance to sorafenib treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) negatively impacts patient outcomes, and the role of the extracellular matrix in this resistance is not well understood.
  • Research identified FN-EDA from cancer-associated fibroblasts as a key factor in this resistance, as it enhances SHMT1 enzyme levels in HCC cells through the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, helping cells cope with the oxidative stress from sorafenib.
  • Clinical validation showed that targeting the FN-EDA/SHMT1 pathway could potentially improve how well patients respond to sorafenib, indicating a new therapeutic strategy for HCC.

The serious problem of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning on the surface of Pt-based catalysts has long constrained the commercialization of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Regeneration of Pt sites by maintaining CO scavenging ability through precise construction of the surface and interface structure of the catalyst is the key to obtaining high-performance CO-resistant catalysts. Here, we used molybdenum carbide (MoC) as the support for Pt and introduced Ru single atoms (SA-Ru) at the Pt-MoC interface to jointly decrease the CO adsorption strength on Pt.
