  • - Three new diterpenoids, pedilanins A-C, with a unique carbon structure, were discovered from the plant Pedilanthus tithymaloides, along with nine new jatrophane diterpenoids and five known compounds.
  • - The newly identified compounds feature an unusual tricyclo[10.3.0.0]pentadecane skeleton and some jatrophanes have a rare cyclic hemiketal substructure.
  • - In biological tests, these compounds significantly reversed multidrug resistance in cancer cells, showing improvements from 17.9 to 396.8 times at a concentration of 10 μM, primarily by inhibiting the P-glycoprotein transporter function.

Background: Congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection is the most common cause of childhood hearing loss (HL), although the strength of this association remains limited and inconclusive. Thus, the purpose of this study was to summarize evidence regarding the strength of the relationship between cCMV and childhood HL and to determine whether this relationship differs according to patient characteristics.

Methods: The PubMed, EmBase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for studies evaluating the relationship between cCMV and HL from inception to September 2019.

Fertilization is an effective way to improve soil quality, increase soil fertility and soil microbial diversity in paddy soil. To explore the changes of soil labile organic carbon (C) fractions and hydrolytic enzyme activity after 34 years fertilization treatments in a field experiment in double-cropping rice system of southern China. There were four treatments, including chemical fertilizer alone (MF), rice residue and chemical fertilizer (RF), 30% organic matter and 70% chemical fertilizer (OM), and the control without fertilizer input (CK).

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer amongst women worldwide, and numerous microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are involved in the initiation and progression of breast cancer. The aim of the present study was to identify hub miRNAs and determine the underlying mechanisms regulated by these miRNAs in breast cancer. Breast invasive carcinoma transcriptome data (including mRNAs and miRNAs), and clinical data were acquired from The Cancer Genome Atlas database.

Dietary preferences were closely associated with the pathogenesis of numbers of metabolic disorders, in particularly, obesity. Dietary fiber was shown to be capable of preventing weight gain and excessive food intake mainly through stimulating chewing and saliva secretion, and promote satiety signals. In this study, we characterized the "Vitamin World Vegan Meal" Formula of , a novel protein-enriched fiber dietary supplement contained potato protease inhibitor II (PI2) that developed.

Background: Calycosin (CAL), a type of O-methylated isoflavone extracted from the herb (AM), is a bioactive chemical with antioxidative, antiphlogistic and antineoplastic activities commonly used in traditional alternative Chinese medicine. AM has been shown to confer health benefits as an adjuvant in the treatment of a variety of diseases.

Aim: The main objective of this study was to determine whether CAL influences the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) system involved in drug metabolism.

A novel high-temperature dielectric and quadratic nonlinear optical switching material, 3,4-difluoroanilinium 18-crown-6 perchlorate, was synthesized. It exhibits two successive structural phase transitions at 347 K and 240 K, respectively. Gradually increased SHG-active characteristics are also identified.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of salidroside on the activities of the different drug-metabolizing enzymes CYP1A2, CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 in rats, in which a specific probe drug was used for each enzyme.

Materials And Methods: After pretreatment with salidroside, five probe drugs were simultaneously administered to rats by gavage. The given dose was 2.

Background: During the last decade, total laparoscopic and laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer patients has been developed as alternatives to open resection. In recent years, this minimally invasive surgery has been extended using robotic-assisted surgery.

Case Presentation: Here, we report a surgical intervention using a Da Vinci surgical robot in which a lower two-third stomach resection with subsequent Billroth II gastrojejunostomy was performed.

Dysregulation of autophagy-mediated podocyte homeostasis is proposed to play a role in idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). In the present study, autophagic activity and lysosomal alterations were investigated in podocytes of IMN patients and in cultured podocytes exposed to sublytic terminal complement complex, C5b-9. C5b-9 upregulated the number of LC3 positive puncta and the expression of p62 in patient podocytes and in C5b-9 injuried podocyte model.

Neuroinflammatory processes have a vital role in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain. Garcinol, harvested from Garcinia indica, is known to exert potent anti-inflammatory properties. Recent studies have indicated that Garcinol may inhibit activation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) by inhibiting NF-κB/p65 acetylation.

Anthropogenic impacts have continuously intensified in mega urban centers with increasing urbanization and growing population. The spatial distribution pattern of such impacts can be assessed with soil halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) as HFRs are mostly derived from the production and use of various consumer products. In the present study, soil samples were collected from the Pearl River Delta (PRD), a large urbanized region in southern China, and its surrounding areas and analyzed for a group of HFRs, i.

A fluoroimmunoassay based on quantum dots (QDs) and a lateral flow immunoassay system based on the magnetic beads (MB) were constructed to detect ractopamine (RAG) in urine samples. The monoclonal antibody (Ab1) against RAC was conjugated with QDs or MB as detector reagent, respectively. They apply a competitive format using an immobilized RAC conjugate and free RAC present in samples.

Article Synopsis
  • Intrathecal analgesia is more effective than traditional methods (oral/intravenous) for managing pain and can be delivered via cost-effective ZigBee-based wireless pumps in home care for patients in China.
  • The study retrospectively evaluated pain relief efficacy, side effects, and patient satisfaction over time, finding that pain significantly decreased and quality of life improved without major complications.
  • Overall, the research concluded that wireless intrathecal analgesia is a safe and effective treatment for chronic cancer pain management in patients' homes.

Article Synopsis
  • Seawater drowning-induced acute lung injury (ALI) causes increased inflammation, lung damage, and difficulty breathing, currently treated mainly with supportive care.
  • Erythropoietin (EPO), known for its anti-inflammatory and protective properties, was tested on male rats to see if it helps with ALI resulting from seawater aspiration.
  • The study showed that EPO pretreatment significantly improved lung function and reduced inflammation and damage, suggesting it could be a potential therapeutic option for ALI caused by seawater.

Background: Both hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and mild hypothermia have been reported to prevent brain damage caused by reperfusion assault through regulating the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR). However, the relationship between the two treatments and how they exert neuro-protective effects through NMDARs remain to be elucidated.

Methods: Transient cerebral ischemia was induced using the Pulsinelli four-vessel occlusion method.

Background: Neuropathic pain (NP) continues to be challenging to treat due to lack of effective drugs. Accumulating evidence elucidated that glia-mediated inflammatory reactions play a pivotal role in the introduction and development of NP. Besides, activation of the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)/monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) pathway in astrocytes has been reported to be critical for spinal astrocytic activation and neuropathic pain development after spinal nerve ligation (SNL).
