In our experiments, we investigated the effect of temperature on diatom polyamine metabolism using as an experimental algal species. We set three different temperature conditions for incubation and selected in the exponential growth period, and analyzed basic physiological parameters, polyamine composition and content, and polyamine oxidase (PAO) gene expression at different temperatures. The results showed that low temperatures led to a decrease in growth rate, an increase in biogenic silica content, an increase in the content of putrescine and spermine, a decrease in the concentration of spermidine, and a down-regulation of PAO gene expression.

Soft tissue integration (STI) around dental implants determines their long-term success, and the key is to immediately construct a temporary soft tissue-like barrier to prevent bacterial invasion after implantation and then, promote STI. In response to this need, an injectable multi-crosslinked hydrogel (MCH) with abilities of self-healing, anti-swelling, degradability, and dry/wet adhesion to soft tissue/titanium is developed using gallic acid-graft-chitosan, oxidized sodium alginate, gelatin, and Cu with water and borax solution as solvents, whose properties can be controlled by adjusting its composition and ratio. MCH can not only immediately build a sealing barrier to block the bacterial invasion in the oral simulation environment but also deliver outstanding antibacterial efficacy through the synergism of trapping bacteria and releasing bactericidal agents such as chitosan, gallic acid, aldehyde, and Cu.

Biomimetic membrane was investigated as model systems to mimic the structure of milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) and to study the effects of thermal processing-induced changes in MFGM fractions on membrane morphology and physical properties. Molecular docking was utilized to screen xanthine oxidase (XO) as the MFGM protein most likely to bind to phospholipid molecules on MFGM. Fluorescence spectroscopy verified that XO formed stable complexes with DOPE, DPPC, and PS 18:0-18:1, with the strongest binding to DOPE.

By using Skeletonema dohrnii as the experimental algal species, we investigated how silicate concentration impacts the polyamine metabolism of diatoms in our experiment. Three different silicate concentrations were set for cultivation, and Skeletonema dohrnii at the exponential growth phase was selected to analyze basic physiological parameters, polyamine content, and Polyamine oxidase (PAO) gene expression under varying silicate concentrations. Results showed that low silicate concentrations led to reduced growth rate and polyamine content, with down-regulation of PAO gene expression.
