Purpose: The risk of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy-related GI adverse events in patients with cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has not been well described. We characterized GI adverse events in patients with underlying IBD who received immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Patients And Methods: We performed a multicenter, retrospective study of patients with documented IBD who received immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy between January 2010 and February 2019.

For raising implementation, an alternative delivery method with good potential is telehealth. The current study assessed the clinical and cost benefit of video directly observed therapy (VDOT), compared with DOT service.

Background: X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is one of the most common peroxisomal disorders characterized by abnormal accumulation of very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) in plasma and tissues and caused by mutations within ABCD1. Clinically, ALD present with various phenotypes, ranging from asymptomatic type to rapidly progressive childhood cerebral form. However, no remarkable abnormality in cerebral white matter usually makes it difficult to distinguish adult ALD from hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP).

Expression and prognostic value of FOXP1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Background: Forkhead box protein P1 (FOXP1) has been suggested as a prognostic marker in several malignant tumors. However, the significance of FOXP1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is still unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression pattern of FOXP1 in normal esophageal tissue and ESCC and to analyze the clinicopathological significance and prognostic value of FOXP1 in ESCC.

Biostimulation of sewage sludge solubilization and methanization by hyper-thermophilic pre-hydrolysis stage and the shifts of microbial structure profiles.

This study evaluated the influence of hyper-thermophilic pre-hydrolysis stage (70 °C) on methane recovery of sewage sludge at 35 °C. In this configuration, the process performance in both temperatures were estimated and the microbial communities were characterized by full-length16S rRNA genes and/or microbial activities. In addition, the appropriate solubilization reaction time was assessed.

Assessing cardiovascular remodelling in fetuses and infants conceived by assisted reproductive technologies: a prospective observational cohort study protocol.

Introduction: Assisted reproductive technologies (ART), namely in vitro fertilisation and intracytoplasmic sperm injection, have become widely used to treat infertility. Although the use of ART is generally considered favourable, there are ongoing concerns about the prenatal and perinatal risks as well as long-term risks for the child. Epidemiological studies have demonstrated an association between pathological events during fetal development and future cardiovascular risk, raising concerns about cardiovascular remodelling in fetuses conceived by ART.

Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia at first relapse in the era of tyrosine kinase inhibitors.

Despite the advances in the management of Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with the introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), relapses remain challenging. We reviewed clinical data from adult patients with Ph + ALL who received frontline hyperCVAD chemotherapy with a TKI to determine their outcomes after first relapse. Patients with first morphological relapse after prior complete remission were evaluated for predictors of response and survival.

Quality of life impact of EUS in patients at risk for developing pancreatic cancer.

Background And Objectives: The current knowledge about the psychological impact of pancreatic cancer (PC) screening is limited. We aimed to assess the changes in quality of life (QOL) and level of distress after undergoing EUS in individuals with pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) and in patients at high risk for PC based on genetic and familial factors.

Methods: Eighty patients with PCL and/or increased genetic or familial risk for PC who had undergone EUS were contacted.

Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) is a manifestation of severe sepsis and is the main cause of increased mortality in sepsis patients. Naringin (Nar) has been reported to possess various biological activities and pharmacological properties. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to evaluate whether Nar can protect rats from the effects of LPS-induced SIMD.

Genetic spectrum and clinical profiles in a southeast Chinese cohort of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease is a heterogeneous group of inherited sensorimotor neuropathies. To clarify the genetic spectrum and clinical profiles in Chinese CMT patients, we enrolled 150 unrelated CMT patients from southeast China. We performed multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) testing in all patients and next-generation sequencing (NGS) among those patients without PMP22 rearrangements.

Molecular Profiling of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Using Circulating Cell-Free DNA.

Purpose: Molecular profiling has been used to select patients for targeted therapy and determine prognosis. Noninvasive strategies are critical to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) given the challenge of obtaining liver tissue biopsies.

Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal (SCCA) presents a rising incidence in the United States. Standard of care for locally advanced disease is comprised of infusional 5-fluorouracil with mitomycin C or cisplatin concurrent with radiation therapy (RT). We designed this trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a more convenient regimen composed of capecitabine and oxaliplatin.

Clinical features and genetic spectrum in Chinese patients with recessive hereditary spastic paraplegia.

Background: Although many causative genes of hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) have been uncovered in recent years, there are still approximately 50% of HSP patients without genetically diagnosis, especially in autosomal recessive (AR) HSP patients. Rare studies have been performed to determine the genetic spectrum and clinical profiles of recessive HSP patients in the Chinese population.

Methods: In this study, we investigated 24 Chinese index AR/sporadic patients by targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS), Sanger sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA).

Enhanced methanogenic performance and metabolic pathway of high solid anaerobic digestion of chicken manure by Fe and Ni supplementation.

High solid anaerobic digestion (AD) is a promising technology for the treatment of organic waste in terms of efficient bioenergy production and digestate volume reduction. However, the high solid AD of chicken manure has been a challenge due to the inhibition effects caused by high ammonia levels. In this study, the addition of 280 mg/L Fe and 2 mg/L Ni has been proven to enhance the microbial activity and to overcome inhibition under the stressed environment.

Background: The risk of colorectal neoplasia in breast cancer survivors is unclear. This study aimed to determine the colonic adenoma detection rate (ADR) in patients with breast cancer.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of patients with breast cancer who underwent a colonoscopy between 2000 and 2017.

miR-22 enhances the radiosensitivity of small-cell lung cancer by targeting the WRNIP1.

Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive malignancy characterized by high cellular proliferation and early distant metastasis. Our study aimed to explore the effect of miR-22-3p (miR-22, for short) on SCLC radiosensitivity and its molecular mechanisms. The expression level of miR-22 was evaluated in a human normal lung epithelial cell line and a human SCLC cell line, and cell apoptosis and migration were detected.

Response of the microbial community to the methanogenic performance of biologically hydrolyzed sewage sludge with variable hydraulic retention times.

Hyperthermophilic biological hydrolysis of sewage sludge was applied before long-term anaerobic digestion to investigate how shortening hydraulic retention times (HRT, 20-5d) affected methanogenic performances and microbial dynamics. Results indicated that although the three different HRTs provided a stable process with a steady-state of methane production, both methane yield (161 L kg-VS 25% higher) and volatile solids removal (VS, 50%, 2-fold higher) increased during longer HRTs. Redundancy analysis results indicated that Sporosarcina and Methnosarcina positively correlated to VS removal and methane yield, and negatively correlated to volatile fatty acids (VFAs) accumulation.

Use of magnoflorine-phospholipid complex to permeate blood-brain barrier and treat depression in the CUMS animal model.

To improve the liposolubility and blood-brain barrier permeability of magnoflorine, a new formulation of magnoflorine-phospholipid complex was prepared, characterized, and pharmacologically evaluated in the chronic unpredictable mild stress animal model. In this paper, the magnoflorine-phospholipid complex was synthesized and its characterization was determined. The antidepressant-like and antioxidant activity of magnoflorine-phospholipid complex was investigated by behavioral tests and western blotting analysis.

Upper gastrointestinal symptoms and associated endoscopic and histological features in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have demonstrated effectiveness in treating many malignancies. Gastrointestinal (GI) adverse events are commonly reported; however, few reports describe upper GI tract toxic effects. We aimed to describe clinical features of upper GI injury related to ICI.
