Article Synopsis
  • The metabolic processes of fruits create humidity in packaging, which leads to spoilage from microorganisms.
  • A newly developed Fe/Zr bimetallic organic framework packaging (FeMGCF) improves water binding stability, which helps mitigate this issue.
  • This innovative packaging extends the shelf life of tomatoes by 6 days and slows the degradation of vital nutrients like lycopene and anthocyanins.

Article Synopsis
  • A new catalyst made from biomass carbon is developed, which is tailored to effectively target and degrade phthalates in water, showing improved oxygen reduction and hydroxyl radical production.
  • The modified catalyst (MIP@BC) has 40% better adsorption for Dimethyl phthalate (DMP), allowing for a much faster breakdown of the compound compared to a non-modified version.
  • In real water samples, the degradation of DMP significantly increased, highlighting the potential of this technique for addressing harmful contaminants in polluted water sources.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the link between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) specifically among American women who have had at least one live birth.
  • Analyzing data from 8,394 participants aged 20 and older, researchers found a significant association between higher DII scores and increased risk of T2D, noting a 56% increased risk for women in the highest third of DII scores.
  • Results showed that the relationship between DII and T2D varied based on factors like obesity, oral health, and socioeconomic status, indicating that these subgroups may have different risks related to dietary inflammation and diabetes.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is rare and the prognosis is poor, therefore there is an urgent need to improve this situation. The objective of this study was to explore the effect of first-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in the patient of the double primary malignant tumors.

Case Report: We report a case of lung adenocarcinoma with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated by icotininb after five-year follow-up.

is a significant woody plant for phytoremediation in heavy metals contaminated soils. The growth and tolerance of host plants under the lead (Pb) stress were enhanced by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). To evaluate the adjustment by AMF on growth and activity of antioxidant system of under Pb stress.

Toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems, composed of a stable toxin and a cognate unstable antitoxin, are ubiquitous in the genomes of bacteria and archaea. Under suitable growth conditions, an antitoxin prevents its cognate toxin from inducing toxicity; nonetheless, under stress or plasmid loss, it is either rapidly degraded or downregulated, thereby freeing the toxin to exert its activity toward various targets. Currently, TA systems are classified into eight types based on the nature and mode of action of antitoxins.

Metals are necessary elements for bacteria. Typically, vertebrate hosts restrict invading bacterial pathogens from accessing metals. Therefore, bacteria have evolved high-affinity metal importers to acquire metals.

An ammonium transporter LbAMT3-1 overexpression increases the arbuscular abundance of mycorrhizal that opens the possibility of using LbAMT3-1 in breeding programs to improve symbiotic nutrient uptake in Lycium barbarum. Nitrogen (N) is one of the most essential nutrients required by plants and limits net primary production much of the time in most terrestrial ecosystems. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi can enhance plant nutrient uptake and improve plant productivity in nutrient limit ecosystems.

Genipin, an iridoid substance, is mainly derived from Gardenia jasminoides Ellis of the traditional Chinese medicine and is widely used in raw materials for the food additive gardenia blue and biological materials. The developmental toxicity of genipin has not been investigated, and its underlying mechanism is unclear. Therefore, in this study we attempt to investigate the potential developmental toxicity of genipin in zebrafish embryos/larvae.

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of gefitinib retreatment beyond disease progression in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with sensitive epidermal growth factor receptor () mutations.

Methods: Data from patients with stage III/IV NSCLC were analyzed retrospectively. Patients with sensitive mutations received first-line treatment with gefitinib followed by retreatment with gefitinib after disease progression.

causes severe infections in both swine and humans, making it a serious threat to the swine industry and public health. Insight into the physiology and pathogenesis of undoubtedly contributes to the control of its infection. During the infection process, a wide variety of virulence factors enable to colonize, invade, and spread in the host, thus causing localized infections and/or systemic diseases.

As a wetland of international importance, the ecological function zone of the Sanjiang Plain (EFZSP) plays an important role in maintaining waterfowl habitat. With the increasing disturbance of human beings, land use and climate changes, habitat suitability for waterfowls (HSW) has drawn greater attention of ecologists. In this study, Landsat TM/ETM+/OLI and HJ-1B images in 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2015 were used to obtain land cover classification by object-based image analysis, and the entropy and analytic hierarchy process methods were adopted to determine the factors and their weights, the factors selected in this study included water condition (lake and river density), disturbance factor (residence and road density), shelter condition (land cover type and slope), and food abundance (NDVI).

Introduction: The incidence of central nervous system disease has increased in recent years. However, the transportation of drug is restricted by the blood-brain barrier, contributing to the poor therapeutic effect in the brain. Therefore, the development of a new brain-targeting drug delivery system has become the hotspot of pharmacy.

A rapid and convenient method was established to preparatively isolate the three ellagic acid types of compounds, which were the main polyphenols in Euphorbia pekinensis, by flexibly applying solvent extraction combined with counter-current chromatography (CCC). The total extract (extracted using 95% ethanol) of E. pekinensis was pretreated by two simple steps before CCC isolation, following the procedure: the total extract was extracted by classical solvent extraction using petroleum ether and ethyl acetate, respectively, and then the ethyl acetate extract was suspended using 95% ethanol, after being allowed to stand overnight, the sediment was obtained.
