Methods: Sixty adult SD rats were randomly divided into two groups and underwent crush injury alone (group A, = 30) or transection injury followed by surgical repair (group B, = 30) of the right hind paw. Each group was subjected to the CatWalk test, gastrocnemius muscle evaluation, pain threshold measurement, electrophysiological examination, retrograde neuronal labeling, and quantification of nerve regeneration before and 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after injury.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects and underlying physiological mecha-nisms of partial root zone irrigation (PRI) and rational close planting, as well as their interaction on yield and water productivity (WP) of cotton and to explore new alternatives of water-saving irrigation in dry land areas. A factorial field experiment with irrigation mode (normal irrigation, partial root-zone irrigation and deficient irrigation) and plant population density (135000, 180000 and 225000 plants·hm) was conducted in the west of Inner Mongolia to examine their effects on cotton growth, yield, water productivity and related physiological characters. The results showed that the irrigation mode and plant density as well as their interaction significantly affected the biomass, yield, yield components and harvest index.

The present research was designed to investigate whether endothelin-1 (ET-1) secretion can be induced by oxyhemoglobin and whether nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) is involved in the regulation of ET-1 transcription in cerebrovascular muscle cells. Cerebrovascular muscle cells isolated from a rabbit basilar artery were stimulated by oxyhemoglobin (OxyHb) and ET-1 production was increased significantly in the supernatant. Inhibition of NF-κB with pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate and small interfering RNA decreased the expression of ET-1.

In this study, the fibroblasts cell line derived from ear marginal tissue of Yunnan semi-fine wool sheep was successfully established using the primary explants technique and cryopreservation technology. Seven polyoxazoline ligands were synthesized in high yield in a one-pot reaction by heating polycarboxylic acids or their esters and chiral β-amino alcohols under reflux with concomitant removal of water or the alcohol produced in the reaction. The method is much simpler and more efficient in comparison to those methods reported in the literature.The compounds were used as chiral ligands in the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of aromatic ketones, and the effects of the linkers and the substituents present on the oxazoline rings on the yield and enantioselectivity investigated.

The putative anxiolytic activity of asiaticoside was examined in male mice by using a number of experimental paradigms of anxiety, with diazepam being as a positive anxiolytic control. In the elevated plus-maze test, diazepam (1 and 2 mg/kg) or asiaticoside (5 or 10 mg/kg) increased the percentage of entries into open arms and of time spent on open arms. In the light/dark test, as with 1 mg/kg diazepam, asiaticoside (10 and 20 mg/kg) increased the time spent in the light area and the movement in the light area without altering the total locomotor activity of the animals.

In our previous studies, we have demonstrated the anxiolytic effects of angelica essential oil in three anxiety models using mice. This study aimed to characterize the similar behavior effects of angelica essential oil in the social interaction test of anxiety and the hole-board test of exploration and locomotor activity in rats. These results indicate that angelica essential oil possessed a wide range of anxiolytic properties.
