Cr-doped VO thin film shows a huge resistivity change with controlled epitaxial strain at room temperature as a result of a gradual Mott metal-insulator phase transition with strain. This novel piezoresistive transduction principle makes Cr-doped VO thin film an appealing piezoresistive material. To investigate the piezoresistivity of Cr-doped VO thin film for implementation in MEMS sensor applications, the resistance change of differently orientated Cr-doped VO thin film piezoresistors with external strain change was measured.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effectiveness of lenvatinib in treating unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and identified key factors influencing patient survival.
  • This involved analyzing data from 53 patients on lenvatinib monotherapy and 19 patients on a combination therapy of lenvatinib and immune checkpoint inhibitors.
  • The results showed that while the combination therapy had a higher response rate, there were no significant differences in progression-free survival or overall survival between the two groups, although specific patient criteria from the monotherapy group indicated better outcomes.

Avalanche resistive switching is the fundamental process that triggers the sudden change of the electrical properties in solid-state devices under the action of intense electric fields. Despite its relevance for information processing, ultrafast electronics, neuromorphic devices, resistive memories and brain-inspired computation, the nature of the local stochastic fluctuations that drive the formation of metallic regions within the insulating state has remained hidden. Here, using operando X-ray nano-imaging, we have captured the origin of resistive switching in a VO-based device under working conditions.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are present in blood at much lower concentrations (5-6 orders of magnitude) compared to lipoprotein particles (LP). Because LP and EV overlap in size and density, isolating high-purity EVs is a significant challenge. While the current two-step sequential EV isolation process using size-expression chromatography (SEC) followed by a density gradient (DG) achieves high purity, the time-consuming ultracentrifugation (UC) step in DG hinders workflow efficiency.

The impact of metabolic dysfunction or metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) on liver-related events (LREs) in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) who had achieved a sustained virologic response (SVR) to direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) is unknown. A total of 924 patients with cured CHC and documented body mass index (BMI) were included in the analysis, and the data period was from September 2012 to April 2022. Hepatic steatosis was identified either through ultrasonography or blood biomarkers.

Dimensional confinement has shown to be an effective strategy to tune competing degrees of freedom in complex oxides. Here, we achieved atomic layered growth of trigonal vanadium sesquioxide (VO) by means of oxygen-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. This led to a series of high-quality epitaxial ultrathin VO films down to unit cell thickness, enabling the study of the intrinsic electron correlations upon confinement.

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is prevalent among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, but its pathogenesis has rarely been explored. Galectin-9 (Gal-9) interacts with T cell immunoglobulin and mucin-containing-molecule-3 (TIM-3) expressed on hepatocytes and thus regulates T cell proliferation in a murine model of NAFLD. We aimed to examine the pathogenic role of the Gal-9/TIM-3 pathway in RA-NAFLD.

Past studies have confirmed the etiologies of bacterial extracellular vesicles (BEVs) in various diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of stool-derived bacterial extracellular vesicles (stBEVs) and discuss their association with stool bacteria. First, three culture models - gram-positive (G+)BEVs (from ), gram-negative (G-)BEVs (from ), and eukaryotic cell-derived EVs (EEV, from Colo205 cell line) - were used to benchmark various fractions of stEVs separated from optimized density gradient approach (DG).

Article Synopsis
  • Immune-related liver injury (irLI) occurs more frequently in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) compared to those with other solid tumors, showing an incidence of 11.4% versus 2.6%.
  • Patients with HCC experienced irLI earlier (median of 1.4 months) than those with other cancers (median of 4.7 months), but had higher rates of irLI resolution (72.1% vs. 58.3%).
  • The study suggests that while irLI leads to improved overall survival in HCC patients with milder cases, it also results in lower need for corticosteroids, indicating a different response pattern compared to

Biomarkers for predicting the treatment efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-based therapy in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC) are crucial. Previous studies demonstrated that C-reactive protein and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in immunotherapy (CRAFITY) score at baseline predicted treatment outcomes and that patients with uHCC with AFP response, defined as > 15% decline in AFP level within the initial 3 months of ICI-based therapy, had favorable outcomes when receiving ICI-based therapy. However, whether the combination of CRAFITY score and AFP response could be used to predict treatment efficacy of programmed death-1 (PD-1) blockade-based therapy in uHCC patients remains unclear.
