Article Synopsis
  • Diabetes mellitus is a major cause of chronic wounds and non-traumatic amputations, with its prevalence on the rise globally.
  • The dysfunction of keratinocytes, the skin cells vital for wound healing, is exacerbated by high glucose levels, leading to issues like prolonged inflammation and poor healing.
  • Understanding the molecular mechanisms behind keratinocyte dysfunction in high glucose conditions can help develop effective treatments for diabetic wound healing.

The concentration and distribution characteristics of 27 antibiotics, including 8 sulfonamides, 9 quinolones, 4 tetracyclines, 4 macrolides, and 2 nitroimidazoles, in the surface water, groundwater, and wastewater of the Jinjiang River basin in Jiangxi province were determined using solid-phase extraction combined with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. The results showed that there was antibiotic pollution in the waters of the Jinjiang River basin. A total of 20 antibiotics were detected in the surface water, with a concentration range of 32.

Mitochondrial Lon is a multi-function matrix protease with chaperone activity. However, little literature has been undertaken into detailed investigations on how Lon regulates apoptosis through its chaperone activity. Accumulating evidences indicate that various stresses induce transportation of p53 to mitochondria and activate apoptosis in a transcription-independent manner.

Nitrogen-incorporated ultrananocrystalline diamond (N-UNCD) and multi-layer-graphene-like hybrid carbon films have been synthesized by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) on oxidized silicon which is pre-seeded with diamond nanoparticles. MPECVD of N-UNCD on nanodiamond seeds produces a base layer, from which carbon structures nucleate and grow perpendicularly to form standing carbon platelets. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and Raman scattering measurements reveal that these carbon platelets are comprised of ultrananocrystalline diamond embedded in multilayer-graphene-like carbon structures.

To study the correlation between chromosome centromeric dots and habitual abortions, Cd variation, Cd loss, maximum diameter of Cd and Cd-NOR of 38 habitual abortion patients and 42 healthy persons were measured, compared and analysed with Cd-banding technique. It was found that the frequencies of Cd variation and Cd loss were obviously higher and maximum diameter of Cd was smaller in habitual abortion patients than those in healthy persons. The increase of frequencies of Cd variation and Cd loss and the decrease of maximum diameter of Cd might be the causes affecting habitual abortions.
