Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) programs are an effective, yet underutilized, resource to improve health outcomes and behaviors for people with diabetes. We examined the attendance and referral rates for people with diabetes to DSMES classes at an academic medical center, noting a 10% referral rate and 37% completion rate for those referred. We identified barriers to DSMES care at patient, provider, and health system levels.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a novel approach using routinely collected electronic health records (EHRs) data to improve the prediction of a rare event. We illustrated this using an example of improving early prediction of an autism diagnosis, given its low prevalence, by leveraging correlations between autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions (NDCs).

Computational modeling and human studies suggest that transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) modulates alpha oscillations by entrainment. Yet, a direct examination of how tACS interacts with neuronal spiking activity that gives rise to the alpha oscillation in the thalamo-cortical system has been lacking. Here, we demonstrate how tACS entrains endogenous alpha oscillations in head-fixed awake ferrets.

Working memory is mediated by the coordinated activation of frontal and parietal cortices occurring in the theta and alpha frequency ranges. Here, we test whether electrically stimulating frontal and parietal regions at the frequency of interaction is effective in modulating working memory. We identify working memory nodes that are functionally connected in theta and alpha frequency bands and intracranially stimulate both nodes simultaneously in participants performing working memory tasks.
