Introduction: Previous work of our group showed that lipoxygenase (LOX) pathways become activated upon surgical manipulation of the bowel wall and revealed a beneficial immune modulating role of the LOX-derived anti-inflammatory mediator protectin DX in postoperative ileus (POI). While we found a particular role of 12/15-LOX in the anti-inflammatory LOX action during POI, the role of 5-LOX, which produces the pro-inflammatory leukotriene B4 (LTB4), remained unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of 5-LOX within the pathogenesis of POI in a mouse model.

Background: Child mental health problems are a major public health concern associated with poor mental and physical health later in development. The study evaluates a new community-based intervention to promote sensitive parenting and reduce enduring mental health problems and unhealthy weight among vulnerable infants aged 9-24 months.
Methods: We use a step-wedge cluster randomized controlled trial design conducted within a home visiting program offered by community health nurses to infant families in Denmark.
The induction of apoptosis is a direct way to eliminate tumor cells and improve cancer therapy. Apoptosis is tightly controlled by the balance of pro- and antiapoptotic Bcl-2 proteins. BH3 mimetics neutralize the antiapoptotic function of Bcl-2 proteins and are highly promising compounds inducing apoptosis in several cancer entities including pediatric malignancies.
