Current strategies for bone regeneration after traumatic injury often fail to provide adequate healing and integration. Here, we combined the poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) hydrogel with allogeneic "carrier" cells transduced with an adenovirus expressing BMP2. The system is unique in that the biomaterial encapsulates the cells, shielding them and thus suppressing destructive inflammatory processes.

This study evaluates potential markers in blood and stools for their ability to distinguish bacterial from viral gastroenteritis. A total of 108 patients were prospectively recruited, of which 27 showed bacterial, 30 viral, and 51 no detectable pathogen, respectively. Cytokines, C-reactive protein (CRP), and white blood cells as well as the 2 fecal markers lactoferrin and calprotectin were determined.

Objective: To evaluate the presence of residual disc material within the vertebral canal following hemilaminectomy in chondrodystrophic dogs with thoracolumbar intervertebral disc disease.

Methods: Forty dogs were treated by hemilaminectomy. Computed tomography was performed preoperatively and immediately postoperatively.

Objective: To evaluate inter- and intraobserver variability in the measurement of distal tibial axis/proximal tibial axis angle (DPA) from lateral radiographs of canine tibia in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament rupture (CCLR).

Study Design: Retrospective clinical study.

Animals: Dogs (n=100) with cranial cruciate ligament rupture.

Objective: To describe a surgical technique, and outcome, for treatment of proximal tibial deformity (varus, valgus, excessive tibial plateau angle [eTPA], tibial torsion and patellar luxation) by combined tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and transverse corrective osteotomy.

Study Design: Cases series.

Animals: Dogs (n=12; 19 stifle joints).

A 17-year-old castrated male domestic shorthair cat was diagnosed with bilateral perinephric pseudocysts (PNPs). Bilateral subtotal resection of the PNPs was performed via a laparoscopic approach. There was no regrowth or reformation of the PNPs after the procedure and the cat's serum concentration of creatinine remained stable for 6 months after surgery.

Objectives: To describe the clinical outcome of a 4 pin lumbosacral fixation technique for lumbosacral fracture-luxations, and to refine placement technique for iliac pins based on canine cadaver studies.

Study Design: Retrospective and anatomic study.

Sample Population: Dogs (n=5) with lumbosacral fracture-luxations and 8 cadaveric canine pelvi.

A novel immunoassay is described that applies a thiol-reactive ruthenium metal-ligand complex as the donor dye in a luminescence energy transfer (LET) detection scheme. Unlike amine-reactive labels, the LET with a thiol label allows improved specificity and better reproducibility of labelling positions on proteins, because the number of reactive thiol groups of proteins is distinctly smaller. This helps to reduce the risk of over-labelling and self-quenching of the fluorophore.

Atmospheric aerosols are subject to be responsible for human health effects. In this context, besides mass and number concentration of particles, their chemical composition has gained interest recently. However, knowledge about the organic content of particulate matter is still relatively scarce; i.
