Concurrent treatment of acute pancreatitis and multiple visceral artery aneurysms using endovascular techniques.

Multiple aneurysms involving the celiac axis are extremely rare. Celiac artery aneurysms account for only 4% of all visceral aneurysms with 40% having concomitant aneurysms such as gastroduodenal artery (GDA) aneurysms. Development of a GDA aneurysm is associated with pancreatitis.

Selective use of percutaneous endovascular aneurysm repair in women leads to fewer groin complications.

Background: Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) in women is often technically limited by smaller access vessel anatomy, particularly at the femoral and iliac artery levels. Percutaneous femoral artery access and closure using the "Preclose" technique (PERC) is a less invasive alternative to open surgical femoral arterial exposure and has been reported to be technically feasible, particularly in male cohorts. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and access-related outcomes of PERC in women undergoing EVAR.

Delayed hypogastric artery pseudoaneurysm following blunt trauma without evidence of pelvic fracture.

Arterial pelvic bleeding caused by bony fragments is a common finding in patients with pelvic fractures after blunt trauma (Durkin et al., Am J Surg 2006;192:211-23). However, arterial injury in the absence of bony fracture is extremely rare, and in the event that it does occur, is immediately discovered on cross-sectional imaging.

Cost impact of extension cuff utilization during endovascular aneurysm repair.

Background: Modular stent-graft systems for endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) most often require two to three components, depending on the device. Differences in path lengths and availability of main body systems often require additional extensions for appropriate aneurysm exclusion. These additional devices usually result in added expenses and can affect the financial viability of an EVAR program within a hospital.

Hypogastric artery preservation during aortoiliac aneurysm repair.

Hypogastric artery (HA) embolization with iliac limb extension is often performed for patients with concomitant aorta and common iliac artery aneurysms at the time of standard endovascular aneurysm repair. However, symptomatic pelvic ischemia following HA exclusion can be debilitating. In this study, we described two cases of HA preservation using commercially available stent grafts.

Fate of the external carotid artery following carotid interventions.

Objective: The external carotid artery (ECA) is an important collateral pathway for cerebral blood flow. Carotid artery stenting (CAS) typically crosses the ECA, while carotid endarterectomy (CEA) includes deliberate ECA plaque removal. The purpose of the present study was to compare the long-term patency of the ECA following CAS and CEA as determined by carotid duplex ultrasound.
