Background: There is growing interest in long-term outcomes following infertility and infertility treatment. However, there are few detailed longitudinal cohorts available for this work. This study aimed to assemble a historical cohort of women with primary infertility and age-matched controls to evaluate fertility trends, sequelae, and sociodemographic differences.

Objectives: Technology-assisted Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (tCBT) has significant potentials to provide engaging and accessible depression treatment for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) coping with cancer. This study evaluated the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of an engaging and tailorable tCBT - Mind Your Total Health (MYTH) - for AYA cancer survivors' depression.

There is growing concern about the rising incidence and prevalence of food allergy globally. We previously reported the incidence of food allergy in Olmsted County, Minnesota, between 2002 and 2011. We sought to update the incidence and temporal trends of food allergies in our region through 2018.

Climate, air pollution, and the built environment have long been recognized to influence viral respiratory infections, and studies have established similar associations with COVID-19 outcomes. The mechanisms by which cytoplasmic cargoes such as RNAs are incorporated into extracellular vesicles (EVs) are poorly understood. In a recent article published in Developmental Cell, we describe a novel function of endoplasmic reticulum membrane contact sites (ER MCS) in regulating biogenesis of RNA-containing EVs (Barman et al., 2022).

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are capable of transferring cargo from donor to recipient cells, but precisely how cargo content is regulated for export is mostly unknown. For miRNA cargo, we previously showed that when compared to isogenic colorectal cancer (CRC) cells expressing wild-type KRAS, a distinct subset of miRNAs are differentially enriched in EVs from KRAS mutant active CRC cells, with being one of the most enriched. The mechanisms that could explain how and other miRNAs are differentially exported into EVs have not been fully elucidated.

Conditional filamentation as an adaptive trait of bacteria and its ecological significance in soils.

Bacteria can regulate cell morphology in response to environmental conditions, altering their physiological and metabolic characteristics to improve survival. Conditional filamentation, in which cells suspend division while continuing lateral growth, is a strategy with a range of adaptive benefits. Here, we review the causes and consequences of conditional filamentation with respect to bacterial physiology, ecology and evolution.

Protocol for a pilot randomised controlled trial of zoledronic acid to prevent bone loss following sleeve gastrectomy surgery.

Introduction: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is an increasingly used and effective treatment for obesity; however, the rapid weight loss associated with SG adversely affects bone metabolism predisposing patients to skeletal fragility. Bisphosphonate medications have been evaluated for safety and efficacy in combating bone loss in patients with osteoporosis, but their use in SG-induced bone loss is limited. The goal of this study is to investigate how a one-time infusion of zoledronic acid compares to placebo, in its ability to combat SG-associated bone loss.

IQ in Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Population-Based Birth Cohort Study.

Objectives: We aimed to describe the intellectual ability and ratio of boys to girls with average or higher IQ within autism spectrum disorder (ASD) cases identified in a population-based birth cohort. We hypothesized that research-identified individuals with ASD would be more likely to have average or higher IQ, compared to clinically diagnosed ASD. We also hypothesized the male to female ratio would decrease as the definition of ASD broadened.

Coproduction invites a deeper understanding of what persons sometimes called 'patients' bring to development of a service. Yet, little is known about tools that may help elicit that information.

The ability to use frozen sperm for insemination during in vitro fertilization (IVF) is crucial for patients and for reproductive endocrinologists. However, concerns exist regarding the effects of cryopreservation on sperm quality and IVF outcomes. This study compares outcomes of frozen donor oocyte IVF cycles with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) of good quality fresh versus frozen ejaculated sperm.

Quality of Care Program Reduces Unplanned Health Care Utilization in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Introduction: There is significant variation in processes and outcomes of care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), suggesting opportunities to improve quality of care. We aimed to determine whether a structured quality of care program can improve IBD outcomes, including the need for unplanned health care utilization.

Methods: We used a structured approach to improve adult IBD care in 27 community-based gastroenterology practices and academic medical centers.

Background: Preparatory, written plans for mass casualty incidents are designed to help hospitals deliver an effective response. However, addressing the frequently observed mismatch between planning and delivery of effective responses to mass casualty incidents is a key challenge. We aimed to use simulation-based iterative learning to bridge this gap.

Design: Retrospective cohort study at a single tertiary centre using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) to adjust for differences in baseline characteristics between groups.

Development of a concise injury severity prediction model for pediatric patients involved in a motor vehicle collision.

Objective: Transporting severely injured pediatric patients to a trauma center has been shown to decrease mortality. A decision support tool to assist emergency medical services (EMS) providers with trauma triage would be both as parsimonious as possible and highly accurate. The objective of this study was to determine the minimum set of predictors required to accurately predict severe injury in pediatric patients.

Restarting Neglected Tropical Diseases Programs in West Africa during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons Learned and Best Practices.

Countries across West Africa began reporting COVID-19 cases in February 2020. By March, the pandemic began disrupting activities to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) as health ministries ramped up COVID-19-related policies and prevention measures. This was followed by interim guidance from the WHO in April 2020 to temporarily pause mass drug administration (MDA) and community-based surveys for NTDs.

Objective: Obesity has important implications for motor vehicle safety due to altered crash injury responses from increased mass and improper seatbelt placement. Abdominal seatbelt signs (ASBS) above the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) in motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) often correlate with abdominopelvic trauma. We investigated the relationship of body mass index (BMI), lap belt placement, and the incidence of abdominopelvic injury using computed tomography (CT) evaluation for subcutaneous ASBS mark and its location relative to the ASIS.
