TNF/TNFR Superfamily Members in Costimulation of T Cell Responses-Revisited.

Prosurvival tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily (TNFRSF) members on T cells, including 4-1BB, CD27, GITR, and OX40, support T cell accumulation during clonal expansion, contributing to T cell memory. During viral infection, tumor necrosis factor superfamily (TNFSF) members on inflammatory monocyte-derived antigen-presenting cells (APCs) provide a postpriming signal (signal 4) for T cell accumulation, particularly in the tissues. Patients with loss-of-function mutations in TNFR/TNFSF members reveal a critical role for 4-1BB and CD27 in CD8 T cell control of Epstein-Barr virus and other childhood infections and of OX40 in CD4 T cell responses.

Importance: Distress is common among patients with cancer, and evidence of disparities associated with distress has been mixed. Head and neck cancer (HNC) is one of the most emotionally distressing cancers and is also a highly disparate disease. Concerted modulation of spontaneous behavior and time-integrated whole-brain neuronal activity by serotonin receptors.

Serotonin neurons from the raphe nuclei project across the entire brain and modulate diverse physiology and behavior by acting on over a dozen receptors. Here, we took a step towards dissecting this complex process by examining the effects of agonists and antagonists of four widely expressed serotonin receptors (2A, 2C, 1A, and 1B) on spontaneous mouse behavior, which we related to time-integrated whole-brain neuronal activity as assessed by the expression of Fos, a canonical immediate-early gene product. Low-dimensional representations of behavioral and Fos map data revealed the dominant factors of variation in each domain, captured predictable differences across drug groups, and enabled predictions of behavioral changes following perturbations in Fos maps and vice versa.

The contributions of T cell-mediated immunity to protection from vaccine-preventable diseases: A primer.

In the face of the ever-present burden of emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, there is a growing need to comprehensively assess individual- and population-level immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs). Many of these efforts, however, focus exclusively on antibody-mediated immunity, ignoring the role of T cells. Aimed at clinicians, public health practioners, and others who play central roles in human vaccine research but do not have formal training in immunology, we review how vaccines against infectious diseases elicit T cell responses, what types of vaccines elicit T cell responses, and how T cell responses are measured.

This study extends the analytic approach conducted by Watts et al. (2018) to examine the long-term predictive validity of delay of gratification. Participants (n = 702; 83% White, 46% male) completed the Marshmallow Test at 54 months (1995-1996) and survey measures at age 26 (2017-2018).

We describe a rare case of a 54-year-old female with hairy cell leukemia, who following treatment for neutropenic sepsis, developed an extensive severe maculopapular exanthema with perifollicular hemorrhage. Cladribine, cotrimoxazole, allopurinol, domperidone, amikacin, piperacillin/tazobactam, and meropenem had all been given in the 9 days prior to eruption onset. Three months later, drug patch testing/delayed intradermal testing was positive to cotrimoxazole, trimethoprim, amikacin, piperacillin/tazobactam, and meropenem, with additional evidence of penicillin cross-reactivity.

There is limited investigation about psychiatric symptoms experienced by older adults with mental health conditions or neurocognitive ones residing in a skilled nursing facility during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of this descriptive-design study was to describe the psychiatric symptoms from the year before COVID-19 pandemic to the 1 year of the pandemic for older adults with a mental health condition or a neurocognitive one residing in a skilled nursing facility. A database ( = 84) was established from the extraction of already collected data on the assessment of older adults ( = 84) with mental health conditions or neurocognitive ones living in one skilled nursing facility.

Psychosocial outcomes following emergency laparotomy (POLO) study: a study protocol for a multicentre mixed-methods prospective cohort study assessing the psycho-social outcomes following emergency laparotomy in adults.

Introduction: Morbidity from an emergency laparotomy (EmLap) is difficult to define and poorly understood. Morbidity is a holistic concept, reliant upon an interplay of bio-psychosocial outcomes that evolve long after discharge. Trends and factors associated with receipt of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in private, public, and alternative settings in the United States.

Background: One of the goals of the President's Cancer Panel was to maximize access to human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination through expansion of alternative settings for receiving the vaccine, such as in public health settings, schools, and pharmacies.

Methods: In a cross-sectional analysis, we utilized the National Immunization Survey-Teen data from 2014 to 2020 (n = 74,645) to describe trends and factors associated with HPV vaccine uptake in private, public, and alternative settings. We calculated annual percent change (APC) between 2014 and 2020, estimating rate of HPV vaccine uptake across settings.
