Millions of people are exposed to methyl Hg (MeHg) due to the consumption of fish and to inorganic Hg from dental amalgams, small scale gold mining operations, use of Hg containing products, or their occupations. Neuropathology information associated with exposures to different species of Hg is primarily based on case reports of single individuals or collections of case studies involving a single species of Hg at toxic exposure levels such as occurred in Japan and Iraq.

Grb7 is a signalling adapter protein that engages activated receptor tyrosine kinases at cellular membranes to effect downstream pathways of cell migration, proliferation and survival. The 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide-Tröger's base fluorophore, TBNap-TPy, adorned with phenyl-terpyridine moiety was synthesised and assessed for its aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behaviour. TBNap-TPy was further employed as a fluorescent sensor for the discriminative sensing of π-electron-deficient nitroaromatic; the TBNap-TPy displaying the largest fluorescence quenching with high selectivity for picric acid, a harmful environmental pollutant widely used in the dye industries.

Background: Exposure to the environmental toxicant mercury (Hg) has been associated with immune dysregulation, including autoimmune disease, but few human studies have examined methylmercury (MeHg) exposure from fish consumption.

Industrial release of mercury into the local Minamata environment with consequent poisoning of local communities through contaminated fish and shellfish consumption is considered the classic case of environmental mercury poisoning. Immersing anemones in calcium-free seawater disorganizes hair bundle mechanoreceptors on tentacles of sea anemones while causing a loss of vibration sensitivity. Remarkably, anemone hair bundles recover after being returned to calcium-containing seawater. Reorganization of actin in stereocilia likely follows during the recovery of normal morphology of hair bundles after such immersion.

Method Of Study: Maternal serum samples were collected at 28 weeks gestation (n = 1418) in the Seychelles Child Development Study Nutrition Cohort 2 and analyzed for immune markers by MSD multiplex assay, including cytokines from the Th1 (IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-2 and TNF-α) and Th2 (IL-4, IL-5, IL-10) subsets, with IL-6, MCP-1, TARC, sFlt-1 and VEGF-D. Associations of log-transformed immune markers with birthweight, length, head circumference and gestational age were assessed by multiple linear regression models, which were adjusted for maternal age, BMI, parity, child sex, gestational age and socioeconomic status.
