Factors influencing demand for primary medical care in women aged 20-44 years: a preliminary report.

This paper reports on a study designed to relate certain social and psychological variables to demand for medical care in a random sample of female patients aged between 20 and 44 years, in a National Health Service General Practice in the United Kingdom. Women selected for study completed questionnaires on anxiety and on their social characteristics. They also completed a health diary for four weeks, and over 12 months their demand for general practitioner care was recorded.

Simultaneous measurements of clear air turbulence at the tropopause by high-power radar and instrumented aircraft.

Large amplitude Kelvin-Helmholtz billows observed by radar at a height of almost 11 km are shown to have been associated with clear air turbulence which produced a vertical aircraft acceleration of 0.65g.

Circulation policies in health science libraries.

There is general agreement that library policies have considerable influence on the use of libraries. Medical school (health science) libraries of this country were surveyed as to their policies in respect to whether faculty and student use were regulated by a single policy, circulation regulations, hours library was accessible to users, accessibility of reserve material, interlibrary loan, policy on overdue material, and exit control. THE LIBRARIES WERE THEN DIVIDED INTO THREE GROUPS, HIGH, MIDDLE, AND LOW ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS: size of student body, size of faculty, size of holdings, size of library staff, annual budget, and annual circulation.

Observations of clear air turbulence by high power radar.

Clear air turbulence is a hazard to aviation and is thought to have important effects on atmospheric dynamics. This article describes the structure and evolution of clear air turbulence at high altitudes as revealed by a high power radar and vertical soundings of wind and temperature.

Role of the librarian.

The librarian functions as one of the most important of medical educators. This role is frequently unrecognized, and for that reason, too little attention is given to this role. There has been too little attention paid to the research role that should be played by the librarian.
