Background/aim: The aim of this study was to establish an objective evaluation method for pain due to bone metastasis, based on heart rate variability (HRV).
Patients And Methods: In this prospective study, patients who underwent radiotherapy for painful bone metastases were enrolled. Pain was assessed using a numerical rating scale (NRS), and anxiety and depression were evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).
Mammals shift their feeding habits from mother's milk to environmental foods postnatally. While this weaning process accompanies the acquisition of attractive behaviour toward environmental foods, the underlying neural mechanism for the acquisition is poorly understood. We previously found that adult mouse olfactory tubercle (OT), which belongs to the olfactory cortex and ventral striatum, has functional domains that represent odour-induced motivated behaviours, and that c-fos induction occurs mainly in the anteromedial domain of OT following learned odour-induced food seeking behaviour.

We examined the anti-ulcer effect of cholesteryl glucoside (1-O-cholesteryl-beta-D-glucopyranoside, CG) on cold-restraint stress-induced gastric ulcer in rats, in terms of its correlative ability to activate heat shock factor (HSF) and to induce HSP70. Rapid induction of CG occurred in animal tissues, especially in stomach, after exposure to stress, indicating that this glycolipid might act as an anti-stress, lipid mediator involved in the very early stages of stress-induced signal transduction.
