Objectives: To compare initial treatment with and without corticosteroids for acute pancreatitis in dogs and investigate the therapeutic efficacy and prognosis.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-five dogs were included in this non-blinded, non-randomised clinical study. Dogs with acute pancreatitis received treatment either with dose of 1 mg/kg/day prednisolone (n=45) or without prednisolone (n=20).

As physicians responsible for the training of new primary care physicians, we have faced many problems, particularly in rural areas. Disease vocabulary size as a surrogate marker for physicians' disease knowledge volume.

Objective: Recognizing what physicians know and do not know about a particular disease is one of the keys to designing clinical decision support systems, since these systems can fulfill complementary role by recognizing this boundary. To our knowledge, however, no study has attempted to quantify how many diseases physicians actually know and thus the boundary is unclear. This study explores a method to solve this problem by investigating whether the vocabulary assessment techniques developed in the linguistics field can be applied to assess physicians' knowledge.

Posterior versus direct anterior approach in total hip arthroplasty: difference in patient-reported outcomes measured with the Forgotten Joint Score-12.

Introduction: When the postoperative outcome of primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) was compared with the direct anterior approach (DAA) and the posterior approach (PA), there was no significant difference of the clinical outcome at 6 months to 1 year after surgery in many studies. This study was performed to compare the medium-term outcome of THA via the DAA or PA and clarify which approach achieves better quality of life (QOL).

Methods: We investigated 61 hips receiving primary THA (30 via DAA and 31 via PA), using hip function scores such as the Harris Hip Score (HHS) and patient-reported outcomes such as the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Hip Disease Evaluation Questionnaire (JHEQ), and the Forgotten Joint Score-12 (FJS).

Characteristics of greenhouse gas emissions from an anaerobic wastewater treatment system in a natural rubber processing factory.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from both open-type and closed anaerobic wastewater treatment systems in a natural rubber processing factory in Vietnam were surveyed. In this factory, wastewater was treated by an open-type anaerobic baffled reactor (OABR) that comprised 60 compartments. A part of the wastewater was fed to a pilot-scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor to enable a comparison of the process performance and GHG emission characteristics with those of the OABR.
