Objectives: To compare initial treatment with and without corticosteroids for acute pancreatitis in dogs and investigate the therapeutic efficacy and prognosis.
Materials And Methods: Sixty-five dogs were included in this non-blinded, non-randomised clinical study. Dogs with acute pancreatitis received treatment either with dose of 1 mg/kg/day prednisolone (n=45) or without prednisolone (n=20).
Endoscopy revealed a chicken meat impaction in the upper esophagus. On food removal, an esophageal web (thin membranous constriction) was revealed at the site and diagnosed as GVHD-induced esophageal web by the endoscopist.

As physicians responsible for the training of new primary care physicians, we have faced many problems, particularly in rural areas. The influence of this new program on primary care physicians in rural areas of Japan has not been sufficiently investigated.

To our knowledge, however, no study has attempted to quantify how many diseases physicians actually know and thus the boundary is unclear. This study explores a method to solve this problem by investigating whether the vocabulary assessment techniques developed in the linguistics field can be applied to assess physicians' knowledge.

This study was performed to compare the medium-term outcome of THA via the DAA or PA and clarify which approach achieves better quality of life (QOL).
Methods: We investigated 61 hips receiving primary THA (30 via DAA and 31 via PA), using hip function scores such as the Harris Hip Score (HHS) and patient-reported outcomes such as the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Hip Disease Evaluation Questionnaire (JHEQ), and the Forgotten Joint Score-12 (FJS).
This study was carried out to evaluate the potential application of agricultural waste coconut () fibre in its purified form for decolorization of dye-containing effluent from a down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) reactor. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted by varying adsorbent dose, solution pH, contact time and temperature. The results showed that the adsorption percentage of colour increased with increasing in adsorbent dosage from 0.

We hypothesized that the Fan type can be identified by ultrasound The aim of this study was to investigate whether LFCN injury occurs in DAA-THA in cases identified as the Fan type based on preoperative ultrasound of the proximal femur.
Methods: Ultrasonography of the proximal femur on the surgical side was performed before surgery and the LFCN distribution was judged as the Fan type or Non-Fan type.
Membrane fouling in membrane bioreactors (MBR) remains a major issue and knowledge of microbes associated with biofilm formation might facilitate the control of this phenomenon, Thus, an anoxic/oxic membrane bioreactor (A/O-MBR) was operated under an extremely low organic loading rate (0.002 kg-COD·m·day) to induce membrane fouling and the major biofilm-forming bacteria were identified. After operation under extremely low organic loading condition, the reactor showed accumulation of total nitrogen and phosphorus along with biofilm development on the membrane surface.

In this factory, wastewater was treated by an open-type anaerobic baffled reactor (OABR) that comprised 60 compartments. A part of the wastewater was fed to a pilot-scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor to enable a comparison of the process performance and GHG emission characteristics with those of the OABR.

Materials And Methods: Each of 10 dogs with gallbladder mucocoele underwent CT cholangiography using meglumine iotroxate before cholecystectomy. The following structures of the biliary system were evaluated: the right and left hepatic ducts, common hepatic duct, cystic duct, common bile duct and gallbladder.
Background: Gallbladder agenesis (GBA) is extremely rare in dogs.
Hypothesis/objectives: To describe the history, clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of dogs with GBA.
Animals: Seventeen client-owned dogs with GBA.
Introduction: Although total hip arthroplasty (THA) is superior to bipolar hemiarthroplasty (BHA) for displaced femoral neck fracture in terms of hip pain, function and reoperation rate, THA has a higher rate of dislocation. The direct anterior approach (DAA) and a dual mobility cup (DMC) are associated with lower rates of dislocation. The aim of this study was to investigate the outcomes of THA compared with BHA, and in those patients who had a THA we investigated those with a DMC (DMC-THA) and compared them with those had a single conventional cup (Single cup-THA).

Methods: Prosthesis was present in 85 with periprosthetic femoral fractures. Excluding 73 patients with fracture around the femoral stem or fracture of the TKA femoral component alone, 12 patients with 14 legs with both implants were investigated.
