Introduction: Nerve conduction study (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) are electrodiagnostic studies that are highly tolerated by patients despite their nature of causing pain and discomfort. However, few studies have focused on the true tolerability of these procedures in patients. This study aimed to determine the true tolerance rate of NCS and EMG in patient populations and the factors that might be associated with them.

Objectives: To examine traumatic stress symptoms, moral injury symptoms, moral resilience, and institutional betrayal experienced by critical care nurses and examine how moral injury and traumatic stress symptoms relate to moral resilience, institutional betrayal, and patient-related burnout.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 121 critical care nurses and used an online survey.
Introduction: Geriatric patients (GeP) often experience increased morbidity and mortality following traumatic insult and as a result, require more specialized care due to lower physiologic reserve and underlying medical comorbidities. Motorcycle injuries (MCCI) occur across all age groups; however, no large-scale studies evaluating outcomes of GeP exist for this particular subset of patients. Data thus far are limited to elderly participation in recreational activities such as water and alpine skiing, snowboarding, equestrian, snowmobiles, bicycles, and all-terrain vehicles.

Over the last 30 years, there have been significant efforts to reduce the use of restraint and seclusion in psychiatric hospitals. Although authors have previously described restraint policies and practices in general psychiatry settings across the United States, this study is the first to attempt to describe policies regarding those practices in forensic hospital settings. We review the history of restraint and seclusion use in the United States, placing it within an international context.

Some research has been conducted to explore the risk factors for readmission of patients from inpatient rehabilitation facilities to acute care hospitals. However, few studies have included patients with amputation in the study population.

Objectives: Determine if ultrasonographically guided (USG) PIVCs placed in the emergency department (ED) significantly decreases postinsertion failure rate, increases utility time, and decreases postremoval complication rate.

Behavioral health professionals are charged with providing effective outpatient services while addressing patient and public safety, yet training in empirically-informed violence risk assessment strategies remains inaccessible. The authors developed and evaluated an online distance learning (ODL) course on clinical risk assessment targeting frontline providers and trainees in the United States. The ODL consisted of three modules: confidentiality, duty to third parties, and clinical assessment of violence risk.

Numerous studies have found that a same day discharge (SDD) is safe following this procedure. Research has found that SDDs decrease resource strain, nosocomial infections, and financial burden for both the patient and healthcare system.

Civil commitment is a legal process in which persons may be involuntarily detained for psychiatric evaluation and treatment if, because of mental illness, they are at imminent risk of harming themselves or others. Procedures that protect such persons from undue infringements of their personal liberties vary by state. Some jurisdictions permit individuals to waive their right to contest a hearing and instead stipulate to civil commitment.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted via YouTube search using the keywords "miscarriage," "spontaneous abortion," "pregnancy loss," and "pregnancy failure." The first 20 results for each keyword search, sorted by both relevance and view count, were compiled into a list.
Introduction: The American Geriatric Society has identified polypharmacy and categories of potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) that should be avoided in the elderly. These medications can potentially cause an increased risk of falls and traumatic events.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on elderly patients with traumatic injuries at a Level 1 trauma center.
Introduction: For CenteringParenting-a patient-centered, group family approach to child health-this study aimed to determine how the CenteringParenting model affects clinical outcomes compared with the traditional well-child care model and how the CenteringParenting model affect parent satisfaction as compared with the traditional well-child care model. This study was conducted at the Children's Health Center in West Reading, PA-a single-site pediatric practice that serves primarily an inner city with a population currently at 95,112.
Method: Quantitative data collection was obtained from a retrospective chart review for both groups of patients to obtain outcome data.

The authors surveyed general psychiatry residents across the United States to better understand residents' experiences with forensic training and to identify variables with the greatest impact on residents' exposure to, comfort with, and desire to learn more about forensic populations and settings. The survey inquired about these topics and the forensic psychiatry resources available at residents' training institutions. Respondents ( = 129) spanned eight of ten U.

Methods: Data on assaults occurring on inpatient psychiatric units in one hospital system were collected over 32 months, from November 1, 2016, to July 1, 2019. The events were grouped by whether staff pursued criminal charges after the incident.
Purpose: To test the hypothesis that interventional radiologists (IRs) and neurointerventional (NI) physicians have similar outcomes of endovascular stroke thrombectomy (EVT), which could be used to improve the availability of thrombectomy.
Materials And Methods: Eight hospitals providing EVT performed by IRs and NI physicians at the same institution submitted sequential retrospective data limited to the era of modern devices. Good clinical outcomes (a 90-day modified Rankin score [mRS] of 0-2) and technically successful revascularization (a modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction score of ≥2b) were compared between the specialties after adjusting for treating hospital, patient age, stroke severity, Alberta stroke program early computed tomography score, time from symptom onset to door, and clot location.

Introduction: Blunt traumatic injuries are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the pediatric population. Contrast-enhanced multidetector computed tomography is the best imaging tool for screening patients at risk of blunt abdominal injury. The Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) abdominal rule was derived to identify patients at low risk for significant abdominal injury who do not require imaging.

Psychiatrists and hospital administrators have a duty to keep their staff and the community safe, but this must be carefully balanced with their obligation to uphold the civil rights and liberty interests of their patients. A critical decision in this balancing is whether to utilize security restraints during patient transportation.

The literature on psychiatric hospitals has mostly focused on controlling viral spread, and scant scholarship discusses the transition of patients with serious mental illness from the hospital back to their communities. This column proposes principles for developing safe discharge policies and identifies barriers patients face when infection prevention and recovery goals conflict.

Impostor syndrome (IS) is a psychological phenomenon in which highly successful people are plagued with self-doubt. Its prevalence in hospitalists and effects of mentoring programs are unknown. We surveyed 71 hospitalists at one hospital for symptoms of IS using the Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale (CIPS).
