Identifying mild traumatic brain injury in the post-acute polytrauma setting: a scoping review of diagnostic approaches and screening tools.

Objective: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is frequently overlooked in polytrauma patients due to the overshadowing of more severe injuries, a fact that makes its identification in post-acute settings challenging since symptoms overlap with other conditions and no validated diagnostic tools exist. To address this gap, this scoping review explored the literature on mTBI diagnosis in post-acute civilian polytrauma settings.

Methods: By utilizing the Arksey and O'Malley framework and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, the review focused on studies from 2010 to 2024 related to delayed mTBI diagnosis in adults.

Exploring the Perspectives of Older Adults Living With HIV on Virtual Care: Qualitative Study.

Background: As the population of individuals with HIV ages rapidly due to advancements in antiretroviral therapy, virtual care has become an increasingly vital component in managing their complex health needs. However, little is known about perceptions of virtual care among older adults living with HIV.

Objective: This study aimed to understand the perceptions of older adults living with HIV regarding virtual care.

Exploring caregiver experiences and support needs in end-of-life care for people living with HIV: A scoping review protocol.

Background And Objectives: End-of-life care supports individuals in the last few weeks or months of their life and their caregivers, offering psychosocial support, symptom management and relief, and resources. While some of the first public end-of-life care facilities were established due to HIV/AIDS, the current needs of caregivers for people living with end-stage HIV are not well understood. Caregivers provide two-thirds of the care for people living with HIV, yet their specific support needs and experiences are under-researched.

Methods to monitor mitochondrial disulfide bonds.

Mitochondria contain numerous proteins that utilize the chemistry of cysteine residues, which can be reversibly oxidized. These proteins are involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, protection against oxidative stress, metabolism, energy transduction to adenosine triphosphate, signaling and cell death among other functions. Many proteins located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space are imported by the mitochondrial import and assembly pathway the activity of which is based on the reversible oxidation of cysteine residues and oxidative trapping of substrates.

Patient and Provider Experiences With Compassionate Care in Virtual Physiatry: Qualitative Study.

Background: Telemedicine in the realm of rehabilitation includes the remote delivery of rehabilitation services using communication technologies (eg, telephone, emails, and video). The widespread application of virtual care grants a suitable time to explore the intersection of compassion and telemedicine, especially due to the impact of COVID-19 and how it greatly influenced the delivery of health care universally.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore how compassionate care is understood and experienced by physiatrists and patients engaged in telemedicine.

A framework of research priorities in COVID rehabilitation from the Rehabilitation Science Research Network for COVID: an international consultation involving qualitative and quantitative research.

Purpose: To identify research priorities related to COVID rehabilitation from the perspectives of persons with lived experiences, clinicians, researchers, community organization and policy representatives.

Materials & Methods: We conducted five international consultations to identify key issues and research priorities in COVID rehabilitation using (i) web-based questionnaires, (ii) synchronous discussions, and (iii) content analysis of COVID rehabilitation research conference presentations. We collated responses and notes and then analyzed data using content analytical techniques.

Background: Intravenous dihydroergotamine (DHE) has well-established efficacy for the acute treatment of migraine, but its use is limited by the need for in-hospital administration and the nausea/vomiting associated with a high maximum plasma concentration (C). Inhalation is an alternative to intravenous dosing. The surface area of the lung allows for rapid absorption of a self-administered dose.

Background: Recent studies have challenged the reported causal association between acute kidney injury and iodinated contrast administration, ascribing some cases to changes in renal function that are independent of contrast administration.

Methods: We studied 1779 consecutive patients undergoing right heart catheterization (RHC) at a Veterans Administration Medical Center. We compared the incidence of acute kidney injury and of nephropathy at 3 months in veterans undergoing right and left heart catheterization and coronary angiography (R&LHC) to the incidence of acute kidney injury and of nephropathy at 3 months in patients undergoing RHC only.

Objectives: This study aimed to provide an understanding of perceptions and experiences with DT for prosthetic socket manufacturing from the perspective of prosthesis users.

Barriers and Facilitators to Delivering Inpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation: A Scoping Review.

Objective: The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize the literature on barriers and facilitators that influence the provision and uptake of inpatient cardiac rehabilitation (ICR).

Methods: A literature search was conducted using PsycINFO, MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL and AgeLine. Studies were included if they were published in English after the year 2000 and focused on adults who were receiving some form of ICR (eg, exercise counselling and training, education for heart-healthy living).

Characteristics and healthcare utilization of COVID-19 rehabilitation patients during the first and second waves of the pandemic in Toronto, Canada.

The objective of this study is to describe the healthcare utilization, and clinical and sociodemographic features of a cohort of 74 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients admitted to a tertiary rehabilitation hospital in Toronto, Canada. A retrospective chart review was performed using 74 charts from patients admitted to a COVID-19 rehabilitation unit between 11 April 2020 and 30 April 2021. Measures of central tendency, SDs, interquartile ranges, frequencies, and proportions were calculated to analyze clinical and sociodemographic data.

Patients, Caregivers, and Healthcare Providers' Experiences with COVID Care and Recovery across the Care Continuum: A Qualitative Study.

Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, discharge timelines were accelerated and patients were moved across the continuum of care, from acute to post-acute care, to relieve the strain in health system capacity. Psychosocial group therapy interventions for patients with physical disabilities: A scoping review of implementation considerations.

Objective: Group therapy is an intervention that that has been well-studied in patients with medical illness and shown to optimize patients' wellbeing and mental health resource utilization. However, its implementation and effectiveness have not been adequately studied in those with physical disabilities. This review addresses current gaps by synthesizing the literature to examine implementation considerations in the use of psychosocial group therapy for anxiety and depression in individuals with physical disabilities.

Introduction: Family caregivers play an important role supporting the day-to-day needs of ventilator-assisted individuals (VAIs) living at home. Peer-to-peer communication can help support these caregivers and help them sustain caregiving in the community. Online peer-support has been suggested as a way to help meet caregivers' support needs.

Objective: Compassion is widely regarded as an important component of high-quality healthcare. However, its conceptualization, use, and associated outcomes in the care of people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) have not been synthesized. The aim of this review is to scope the peer reviewed academic literature on the conceptualization, use, and outcomes associated with compassion in the care of PwMS.

The experiences of patients, family caregivers, healthcare providers, and health service leaders with compassionate care following hospitalization with COVID-19: a qualitative study.

Purpose: This study explored the experiences of patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and health service leaders of compassion in the care of people hospitalized with COVID-19.
