The global rise in work-related musculoskeletal ailments has led to issues like neck discomfort, scapular muscle dysfunction, reduced neck mobility, and functional limitations. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of scapular functional exercises (SFE) and cervical isometric exercises (CIE) on pain, cervical range of motion (CROM), and functional limitations in individuals with chronic mechanical neck pain (CMNP). A two-arm, parallel group pretest-post-test randomized comparative trial was conducted.

Intracranial kissing aneurysms, arising either from the same artery or from 2 adjacent arteries at similar locations, are rare. The internal carotid artery is most frequently involved; kissing aneurysms rarely affect the distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA). By dint of the close proximity of the aneurysm fundus, these aneurysms can pose unique operative challenges.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical proprioception significantly affects postural stability in older adults, making it essential to understand their relationship to prevent falls.
  • The study compared 100 older adults (65+) with 100 younger adults (< 65) to assess cervical proprioception, functional mobility, and limits of stability (LOS) using various tests.
  • Results revealed that older adults had worse cervical proprioception, functional mobility, and LOS, highlighting the importance of addressing these factors when treating balance issues in this age group.*

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on comparing the effectiveness of IASTM (instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization) and static stretching on improving ankle flexibility, foot posture, foot function, and balance in patients aged 18-25 with flexible pronated feet.
  • - Seventy-two participants were randomly assigned to a control group, a stretching group, and an IASTM group, with various measurements taken before and after 4 weeks of treatment, which included specific foot exercises and techniques.
  • - Results showed significant improvements in ankle range of motion, foot function, and dynamic balance in the IASTM group, while the stretching group also demonstrated notable enhancements in foot function compared to the control group.

Purpose: To investigate serum cholesterol efflux capacity (the ability of the serum to accept cholesterol) and factors that regulate it using nuclear magnetic resonance-quantified measures of lipoprotein particle composition and size and apolipoproteins metrics in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Design: Case-control study.

Participants: Four hundred two serum samples from 80 patients with early AMD (eAMD), and 212 patients with neovascular AMD (nAMD), including 80 with typical nAMD (tAMD) and 132 with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), and 110 age- and gender matched control participants.

High-temperature requirement A1 (HtrA1) has been identified as a disease-susceptibility gene for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) including polypoidal choroidal neovasculopathy (PCV). We characterized the underlying phenotypic changes of transgenic (Tg) mice expressing ubiquitous CAG promoter (CAG-HtrA1 Tg). In vivo imaging modalities and histopathology were performed to investigate the possible neovascularization, drusen formation, and infiltration of macrophages.
