This study investigates the efficacy of predicting age-related macular degeneration (AMD) activity through deep neural networks (DNN) using a cross-instrument training dataset composed of Optical coherence tomography-angiography (OCTA) images from two different manufacturers. A retrospective cross-sectional study analyzed 2D vascular en-face OCTA images from Heidelberg Spectralis (1478 samples: 1102 training, 276 validation, 100 testing) and Optovue Solix (1003 samples: 754 training, 189 validation, 60 testing). OCTA scans were labeled based on clinical diagnoses and adjacent B-scan OCT fluid information, categorizing activity into normal, dry AMD, active wet AMD, and wet AMD in remission.

Background And Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the safety and efficacy of combined intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) and steroid therapeutic agents for resistant choroidal neovascularization (CNV). A retrospective observational clinical study was performed assessing anatomic and visual changes in a consecutive cohort of patients with refractory chronic wet age-related macular degeneration resistant to high-dose aflibercept therapy.
Patients And Methods: Twelve eyes of 12 patients with unresponsive CNV despite aggressive monthly anti-VEGF (4-mg aflibercept [mean: 43.
In this retrospective case series on neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), we aimed to improve Choroidal Neovascularization (CNV) visualization in Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) scans by addressing segmentation errors. Out of 198 eyes, 73 OCTA scans required manual segmentation correction. We compared uncorrected scans to those with minimal (2 corrections), moderate (10 corrections), and detailed (50 corrections) efforts targeting falsely segmented Bruch's Membrane (BM).

Participants were divided into three subgroups; Normal controls who had not been affected by COVID-19, mild COVID-19 cases who received out-patient care, and severe COVID-19 cases requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission and respiratory support. Patients with systemic conditions that may affect the retinal vasculature before the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection were excluded.

Background And Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and the time to find a lesion, taken in different platforms, color fundus photographs and infrared scanning laser ophthalmoscope images, using the traditional side-by-side (SBS) colocalization technique to an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technique.
Patients And Methods: Fifty-three pathological lesions were studied in 11 eyes. Images were aligned using SBS and AI overlaid methods.
To evaluate an intravitreally injected nanoparticle platform designed to deliver VEGF-A siRNA to inhibit retinal neovascular leakage as a new treatment for proliferative diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. Fusogenic lipid-coated porous silicon nanoparticles loaded with VEGF-A siRNA, and pendant neovascular integrin-homing iRGD, were evaluated for efficacy by intravitreal injection in a rabbit model of retinal neovascularization. For 12 weeks post-treatment, a reduction in vascular leakage was observed for treated diseased eyes versus control eyes (p = 0.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOptical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a widely used 3D imaging technology in ophthalmology. Segmentation of retinal layers in OCT is important for diagnosis and evaluation of various retinal and systemic diseases. While 2D segmentation algorithms have been developed, they do not fully utilize contextual information and suffer from inconsistency in 3D.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a powerful technique for non-invasive 3D imaging of biological tissues at high resolution that has revolutionized retinal imaging. A major challenge in OCT imaging is the motion artifacts introduced by involuntary eye movements. In this paper, we propose a convolutional neural network that learns to correct axial motion in OCT based on a single volumetric scan.

All cases reported involved conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma. All tumors were unilateral, one was localized, another was recurrent, one occurred in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, and the last one was seen at the late stage of massive locoregional invasion.

Early antiviral therapy given for varicella infections might decrease the intensity of clinical symptoms without actually preventing the occurrence of varicella-zoster virus-related lesions such as the persistent pulmonary nodules reported here.

Methods And Results: In two patients carrying a mandibular graft following the excision of an ameloblastoma, mucosal ulcers resulted in chronic osteomyelitis. In a third patient, an apical dental infection was associated with fistulated osteomyelitis.
Patas monkeys were twice immunized with a Schistosoma haematobium-derived recombinant glutathione S-transferase (Sh28GST) then challenged with an homologous calibrated challenge. BCG and Freund's Complete Adjuvant (FCA) were used as adjuvants in two distinct protocols. Specific IgG and IgA antibody responses were intense and homogeneous in the animals receiving Sh28GST in the presence of FCA, whereas BCG could only induce moderate and heterogeneous antibody titres.

We report on a right bronchial-pulmonary artery fistula resulting in fatal hemoptysis in a 54-year-old man, 3 months after right unilateral transplantation for end-stage emphysema. The posttransplantation period was complicated by ulcerative tracheobronchial aspergillosis. Early treatment with itraconazole was performed.

Two injections of the purified molecule with Muramyl-Di-Peptide (MDP) as adjuvant resulted in a high level antibody response in the five immunized animals and in a significant reduction in worm fecundity compared to the controls which received adjuvant alone. Mean levels of daily egg excretion in urine an faeces were reduced by respectively 55% and 74% although perfusion revealed that worm burdens were similar in both groups.

Seventy-three percent of the patients were positive for HBsAg versus 29.8% of the controls (P < 0.

We present an ocular manifestation of schistosomiasis. We observed the case of a 10 year old young girl living near a flooding canal of the Niger river. She presented a tumor of the left lid associated with an important ptosis.

Human hydatidosis has been considered as exceptional in West Africa but seems to be an underestimated disease in Niger. Studies in slaughtered animals from Niger show a high prevalence of hydatidosis in camels while no infection was found among sheep.
