While factors that actively promote positive intergroup interactions have been emerging, a central theoretical framework has not been formally proposed. To address this gap, we engaged a positive psychology lens to explore how researchers have defined key indicators and consider the positive counterparts of traditional prejudice-reduction models to begin building a new framework of egalitarianism.

Development of a Novel Design of Microfluidic Impedance Cytometry for Improved Sensitivity and Cell Identification.

A long-standing issue for microfluidic impedance cytometry devices is the accuracy in determining the size of cells during counting and measurements. In this paper, we introduce a novel design that produces a homogeneous electric field in the sensing region and demonstrates higher accuracy than traditional designs in cell counting and sizing, reducing the reliance on cell focusing and signal postprocessing. The concept is validated, and the increased accuracy of the device over traditional designs is demonstrated through the use of finite element simulations to generate suitable data sets for particle trajectories and model expected signal variations.

Complementary water quality observations from high and medium resolution Sentinel sensors by aligning chlorophyll- and turbidity algorithms.

High resolution imaging spectrometers are prerequisite to address significant data gaps in inland optical water quality monitoring. In this work, we provide a data-driven alignment of chlorophyll- and turbidity derived from the Sentinel-2 MultiSpectral Imager (MSI) with corresponding Sentinel-3 Ocean and Land Colour Instrument (OLCI) products. For chlorophyll- retrieval, empirical 'ocean colour' blue-green band ratios and a near infra-red (NIR) band ratio algorithm, as well as a semi-analytical three-band NIR-red ratio algorithm, were included in the analysis.

As the science of wellbeing has grown, universities have adopted the challenge of prioritizing the wellbeing of students. Positive psychology interventions (PPIs), activities designed to increase the frequency of positive emotions and experiences, which help to facilitate the use of actions and thoughts that lead to human flourishing, are being increasingly used worldwide. Known to boost wellbeing and a number of other variables, it nonetheless remains unknown whether their use can influence other variables in non-Western cultures.

Introduction: The 72-hour unscheduled return visit (URV) of an emergency department (ED) patient is often used as a key performance indicator in emergency medicine. We sought to determine if URVs with admission to hospital (URVA) represent a distinct subgroup compared to unscheduled return visits with no admission (URVNA).

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of all 72-hour URVs in adults across 10 EDs in the Edmonton Zone (EZ) over a one-year period (January 1, 2015 - December 31, 2015) using ED information-system data.

Females of varying degrees of reproductive maturation were captured on their migration route to the Meadow Creek Spawning Channel (British Columbia, Canada), were tagged with passive-integrated transponders (PIT tags) and were subsequently monitored with stationary receivers. Correlation of the Canadian Pediatric Emergency Triage and Acuity Scale to ED resource utilization.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to find if there is a correlation between acuity measured by the Canadian Pediatric Emergency Triage and Acuity Scale (Ped-CTAS) and resource utilization in a large tertiary academic emergency department (ED). If correlation exists, it may indicate that resource allocation was done in accordance with needs (the more acute the patient, the more resources needed). This may also be the basis for future consideration regarding resource allocation decisions.

Cranial leiomyosarcoma in an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-mismatched lung transplant recipient.

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-related complication of solid-organ transplantation. We report the case of a 19-year-old woman with cystic fibrosis who presented with protracted headaches 15 months after an EBV-mismatched bilateral sequential lung transplant. A parasagittal lesion was found on cranial magnetic resonance imaging; surgical resection revealed a leiomyosarcoma.
