Background: Low-income pregnant patients are at high risk of postpartum depression (PPD). Mothers and Babies (MB) is a cognitive behavioral therapy-based program that prevents up to 50% of de novo PPD when provided in person to low-income Spanish- and English-speaking people who are pregnant without depression. MB is limited by the need for trained personnel to support it.

The first anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) monoclonal antibody, infliximab (Remicade), celebrated its 25th anniversary of FDA approval in 2023. Inhibitors of TNF have since proved clinically efficacious at reducing inflammation associated with several autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and Crohn's disease. The success of TNF inhibitors raised unrealistic expectations for targeting other members of the TNF superfamily (TNFSF) of ligands and their receptors, with difficulties in part related to their more limited, variable expression and potential redundancy.

Global trends and scenarios for terrestrial biodiversity and ecosystem services from 1900 to 2050.

Based on an extensive model intercomparison, we assessed trends in biodiversity and ecosystem services from historical reconstructions and future scenarios of land-use and climate change. During the 20th century, biodiversity declined globally by 2 to 11%, as estimated by a range of indicators. Provisioning ecosystem services increased several fold, and regulating services decreased moderately.

Colormaps for Shaded Surfaces: Stepped vs Smooth.

It is common in scientific visualization for one 2D scalar field variable to be colormapped and draped onto a shaded surface representing a second variable displayed as a height field. The experiments reported here investigate the properties that make a colormap suitable for this application; specifically, how much colormap accuracy is lost because of draping and shading as well as the degree to which the colormap impacts the perception of surface shape. A new task is used to evaluate surface shape perception; it involves study participants clicking on the peaks of hills and the bottoms of valleys in the display.

Enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC), caused by the gram-negative enteric bacteria Edwardsiella ictaluri, is a significant threat to catfish aquaculture in the southeastern United States. Antibiotic intervention can reduce mortality; however, antibiotic use results in an imbalance, or dysbiosis, of the gut microbiota, which may increase susceptibility of otherwise healthy fish to enteric infections. Herein, recovery of the intestinal microbiota and survivability of channel catfish in response to ESC challenge was evaluated following a 10-day course of florfenicol and subsequent probiotic or prebiotic supplementation.

Cryptococcal infection can cause significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. We present a patient who was diagnosed with cryptococcal meningitis and pulmonary disease in the setting of a history of renal transplantation. The diagnosis was made based on growth of in blood cultures and identification of cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) in cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) using a lateral flow assay (LFA).

Diving is central to the foraging strategies of many marine mammals and seabirds. Still, the effect of dive depth on foraging cost remains elusive because energy expenditure is difficult to measure at fine temporal scales in wild animals. We used depth and acceleration data from eight lactating California sea lions (Zalophus californianus) to model body density and investigate the effect of dive depth and tissue density on rates of energy expenditure.

Epitope topography of agonist antibodies to the checkpoint inhibitory receptor BTLA.

B and T lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA) is an attractive target for a new class of therapeutics that attempt to rebalance the immune system by agonizing checkpoint inhibitory receptors (CIRs). Rainbow Colormaps Are Not All Bad.

Some 15 years ago, Visualization Viewpoints published an influential article titled Rainbow Color Map (Still) Considered Harmful (Borland and Taylor, 2007). The paper argued that the "rainbow colormap's characteristics of confusing the viewer, obscuring the data and actively misleading interpretation make it a poor choice for visualization." Subsequent articles often repeat and extend these arguments, so much so that avoiding rainbow colormaps, along with their derivatives, has become dogma in the visualization community.
