Epiploic appendagitis (EA) is an uncommon and frequently misdiagnosed cause of acute abdominal pain, typically affecting middle-aged males. This case report presents an atypical occurrence in a 32-year-old Hispanic female who presented with left lower quadrant pain, initially suspected to be diverticulitis or infectious colitis. Contrast-enhanced CT imaging revealed the characteristic findings of EA, a diagnosis that is rarely seen in young adult females.

Health literacy (HL) is essential to understanding health information and achieving health goals. Unfortunately, limited information is available on how parent HL impact child health outcomes. This is critical to understand in areas of the world where access to healthcare services is limited or unavailable.

A pneumothorax or simple pneumothorax is defined as air in the pleural space. A tension pneumothorax can evolve from a simple pneumothorax if there is a continued air leak from the lung without mechanism for egress.

Methods: We quantified plasma HCV RNA and CXCL10 in persons with HCV mono- versus HIV/HCV co-infection receiving Sofosbuvir-Velpatasvir.
Purpose: Very little is known about primary care involvement in the care of cancer survivors beyond the initial 5 years post-treatment when transitioning to primary care is guideline-recommended for many survivors.
Methods: The ICanCare study is a longitudinal survey of women diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014-2015 identified in the Georgia and Los Angeles SEER registries. Women were surveyed during initial treatment and again approximately 6 years later in survivorship (2021-2022; n = 1,412, 60% response rate).
A 38-year-old man developed headache, dysarthria and dysphasia after insufflation of cocaine. Brain imaging showed multiple white matter lesions, suggesting acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), but the clinical features were atypical for demyelination. These lesions may represent a levamisole-associated vascular endotheliopathy, with a mechanism similar to posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome.

Principal component analyses of dietary data (food diaries) at age 60-64 were used to calculate diet scores (healthy dietary pattern scores) at each age. Higher scores indicated healthier diets (higher consumption of fruit, vegetables and wholegrain bread).

In a recent study of the Georgia Cancer Registry, joint exposures to environmental and social/behavioral stressors were associated with spatial clustering of lymphomas and reticuloendothelial neoplasms among the 159 counties in Georgia, USA. The present study aims to further investigate these associations on a more granular level.

We aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms by which vitamin D regulates bone turnover in adolescents living with perinatally-acquired HIV (ALWH) in southern Africa. A pre-planned secondary analysis was performed of baseline data from the VITALITY trial [PACTR20200989766029] which enrolled ALWH (11-19 years) taking antiretroviral therapy for ≥6 months, and recorded socio-demographic, clinical and dietary data.

This study uses a longitudinal retrospective study design.
Methods: Data from 2997 men and women (aged 59-73 at baseline) were analyzed.
The prevalence of poor linear growth among African children with perinatally acquired HIV remains high. There is concern that poor linear growth may to lead to later total and central fat deposition and associated non-communicable disease risks. We investigated associations between height-for-age score (HAZ) and total and regional fat and lean mass measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, expressed as internal population scores, among 839 Zimbabwean and Zambian perinatally HIV-infected male and female adolescents aged 11-19 years.

Nutrition is a key determinant of healthy ageing and local contextual evidence is needed to inform nutritional intervention development in Africa. There are already reviews on nutritional status and food insecurity in older adults in Africa.

We used structural equation models (SEM) to examine associations between race and HCA domains (affordability, availability, accessibility) in relation to overall and OC-specific mortality. Non-Hispanic (NH)-Black and non-Black (Hispanic, NH-White) women diagnosed with OC in 2008-2015 were identified from SEER-Medicare.

A patient's experience encompasses all the interactions an individual has with the health care system. This includes a greater emphasis on actively involving carers in the decisions and activities surrounding a patient's health care.

In this study an ECG based software as a medical device, the Analytic for Hemodynamic Instability Predictive Index (AHI-PI), was compared to the vital signs of heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, evaluating how early it indicated risk before an RRT activation. A higher proportion of the events had risk indication by AHI-PI (92.

MR1 presents metabolites in the context of host responses to bacterial infection. MR1-restricted TCRs specific to tumor cells have been described, raising interest in their potential therapeutic application for cancer treatment.

Methods: Using two-stage cluster sampling, we conducted a secondary analysis of a population-based household survey of 2038 adults in Aleppo, Syria.
The genetic basis of resistance to quinine (QN), a drug used to treat severe malaria, has long been enigmatic. To gain further insight, we used FRG-NOD human liver-chimeric mice to conduct a genetic cross between QN-sensitive and QN-resistant parasites, which also differ in their susceptibility to chloroquine (CQ). By applying different selective conditions to progeny pools prior to cloning, we recovered 120 unique recombinant progeny.
