The Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) presents substantial public health challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR), with its prevalence and interaction with other arboviruses (ABVs) remaining poorly understood. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the prevalence of CHIKV and its association with other ABVs, such as dengue virus (DENV), Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), malaria, and yellow fever virus (YFV), in the EMR. We systematically searched databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and ScienceDirect to identify epidemiological studies that report CHIKV prevalence and provide odds ratios (ORs) for CHIKV compared to other ABVs.

Background: Soft tissue defects around the knee and proximal leg represent a challenging clinical scenario for plastic and reconstructive surgeons. These defects can arise from a variety of causes, including traumatic injuries, such as crush injuries and road traffic accidents, thermal injuries like burns, and surgical complications such as infection. Objective of the study was to evaluate the success of proximally based sural artery flap for soft tissue defects around the knee and proximal leg in patients presenting to our tertiary care hospital.

Article Synopsis
  • Autologous fat grafting has been a popular method in plastic surgery since the 1980s due to its advantages like cost-effectiveness and low risk of complications.
  • A study conducted at a Karachi hospital compared outcomes of patients with chronic non-healing wounds who received fat grafting followed by split-thickness skin grafts (STSGs) versus those who only received STSGs.
  • Results showed that patients receiving the combined treatment had a significantly higher rate of wound healing (66.7%) compared to those with STSGs alone (30%), indicating that fat grafting enhances healing outcomes.

Context/objective: People with spinal cord injury (SCI) are the deciding force behind the rehabilitation program to improve their quality of life (QoL) based on their personal preferences. Here we aimed to determine the preferences perceived most vital by Saudi SCI population to improve their QoL, and explore if these preferences are affected by gender, education, and duration, level, or extent of injury.

Design: Participants ranked seven priorities of bodily functions as Rank I-VII with "I" being "Most important," and "VII" being "Least important.

This literature review aims to explore religiosity, faith, and related beliefs in autistic adolescents. The term religiosity was used interchangeably with various related concepts such as faith, spirituality, and religious beliefs, and a broader, multifaceted approach encompassing the cognitive, subjective, social, cultural, and emotional domains of religiosity is analyzed in this population subgroup. In alignment with the neurodiversity paradigm, this review endeavors to adopt an inclusive lens toward autism spectrum conditions, appreciating the spectrum of cognitive and behavioral differences and highlighting the importance of recognizing strengths and challenges alike, reflecting the nuanced discourse surrounding neurodiversity and autism spectrum conditions.

Background: Computer professionals often develop a forward head posture due to prolonged hours of computer use, leading to neck pain. Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), an advanced technique for treating myofascial trigger points, has become increasingly popular for addressing these musculoskeletal issues.

Objectives: The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of IASTM mobilization on SBAL (superficial back arm line) and SM(specific muscles-upper trapezius, levator scapulae, and sternocleidomastoid) in managing chronic neck pain among computer professionals.

Background: Many clinical trials have looked at the relationship between obesity and lung cancer (LC), however, there is scarcity of literature specifically addressing the association between metabolically healthy obesity and metastasis in LC patients. To address this gap in the body of evidence, the study was conducted to observe the association between metabolically healthy obesity and metastasis in LC patients.

Methods: We conducted a pre-registered systematic review by searching six major online databases to identify studies relevant related to our investigation, in adherence with the PRISMA guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed how low-intensity blood flow restriction (BFR) training combined with high-intensity resistance training (HI-RT) impacts the jumping performance of long jump athletes.
  • Eight athletes were assigned to either HI-RT or the combined training regimen, with muscle power and strength measured at the start, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks into the training.
  • Results showed that the combined training group had significant improvements in muscle strength and jumping performance compared to the HI-RT group, indicating that using both training methods together is beneficial for long jumpers.

Healthcare systems have been under immense pressure since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic; hence, studies on using machine learning (ML) methods for classifying ICU admissions and resource allocation are urgently needed. We investigated whether ML can propose a useful classification model for predicting the ICU admissions of COVID-19 patients. In this retrospective study, the clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of 100 patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 tests were retrieved between May 2020 and January 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • Machine learning (ML) models offer high performance for decision-making but often lack interpretability, posing challenges in sensitive areas.
  • Researchers have developed a methodology to transform complex ML models into simpler, interpretable statistical models using relative feature weights derived from top-performing models.
  • By applying this methodology to cardiovascular disease data, they created transparent and reliable risk prediction models that can help reduce mortality rates through clearer risk assessments.
